I have saved all my web IDs and passwords, including banks and
credit cards, in notes on my keychain. That should be safe, right?

I had been happily using this way of storing my passwords until
yesterday when I went to open one of the notes so I could get a
password. The note wasn't there. Gone. All of the notes were gone.
Disappeared.
OK, I was able to recover the keychain from Time Machine and all is
well. From the date of the last good entry in Time Machine it
appears that the notes were lost after I updated one of them. All
other keychain data seems to have been unaffected.
Can anyone suggest what happened? Are Keychain notes a reasonable
way to store sensitive data?
Running 10.6.2.
