Here's a proposal for a new group. Let me know if there is enough
support for this and/or give suggestions for the charter and I'll try
posting it to alt.config. Or maybe somebody who has done this before
might like to take it over; I've never created an alt group and it seems
pretty complicated for a newbie.

Way, way off topic, Michelle (or Michael, or whatever)... After years
of reading your posts, think I love you!

Right. As if that won't happen on an unmoderated newsgroup! If you
want order, you're going to have to have it moderated.

This is a great idea. I hope you get it going. It will probably have
the heaviest traffic of any cellphone newsgroup after a while.
Especially when some great little apps pop up for it. It will inspire
creativity.
Seems like what is needed is an alt.apple hierarchy for
all the apple "appliances".
alt.apple.itunes
alt.apple.ipod
alt.apple.iphone
alt.apple.itv
alt.apple.safari
alt.apple.misc
These would be OS agnostic groups focused on the particular
product.
I can think of almost no valid reasons for an iphone centric
post into comp.sys.mac.system. Maybe something driver level.
(The fact that is running a flavor of OS X is irrelevant as
long as the OS is totally embedded and hence inaccessible.
comp.sys.mac.app has a better chance as itunes questions
would be OT and "is there a Mac app that can do X with an
iphone also.
alt.cellular.cingular/alt.cellular.attws seem a better
place for service related questions.
Follow-up set to comp.sys.mac.advocacy
