I've had nothing but troubles with my iMac since I bought it over a year
and a half ago. Almost since it was new, I couldn't get any browser to
work, using all normal funtions, on it. Safari mostly worked, but would bog
down after a couple of hours, whether I was using it or not, and wouldn't
load a page until I rebooted. FF wouldn't allow me to reply to blogs or to
send email via an IMAP account. Sometimes, it couldn't load YouTube videos,
or would let me run one or two, then bog down. I also tried Opera, Camino,
Chrome (beta) and others. To top all that off, when I rebooted, my iMac
couldn't see my internet connection and was telling me I didn't have one.
Usually, after 5 or 10 minutes, it recognized the connection. Frustrating.
Neither the cable company, who gladly came out and replaced my modem,
though all the tests indicated it was fine, nor Apple, after 10 visits to
the Genius bar in 14 months, could help. Apple finally gave me a new iMac,
and copied my old system over, but the problem remained.
I finally decided this weekend to install SL, hoping it would help. Voila!
My iMac is once again a fully functioning machine! Don't know what SL does
differently, I just know it was mostly a bug fix release, and it fixed my
bugs! After I "test" rebooted about 10 times, with no problems finding my
internet connection, I haven't had to reboot again all weekend. Can cruise
the net to my heart's content, with no problems.
Don't think I'll ever like my iMac the way I like my iPhone, but I'm
certainly more fond of it now that it's fully working. I just hope it
continues that way.

I don't know how you Maccies can cope with such problems... for years!
After 15 minutes, I'd get furious and make a Web page that would bring
the store down in no time at all.
Maybe you should consider buying a Dell with a 20" monitor for $429?

Its called a troll. He hangs out in c.s.m.a and didn't get enough
attention there so here it is. nobody is taken seriously in the

Sounds like the OP needs to install the SL update.

All the problems listed are ones I deal with on a daily basis with PCs
from XP to 7 (or is it Seven?).
However I wouldn't be surprised if the OP is a nym shifting troll trying
to make Apple look bad. i.e. false flag op.

Who has time for that? Not me. See ya, Priam.
Indeed. The user is where the problem is.
However, I still bless you int he name of the father, son and holy spirit.

that's good, because you have an awful lot of other problems.
I followed this link but there's no page to select an Operating System.
All you can order with it is one of the Minesweeper or Solitaire gaming
support consoles. :)

Wake up! The only *economy* you're seeing affected is that of your evil

what Micro$oft has done to ruin the computer software business with its

view of this as a dichotomy of M$ v. Apple also displays your immaturity
within the business.

Priam, you need to complete the customization of that computer. When I
finished it, it came to $1034. Would have been more if it had not chosen
a mouse/keyboard combo kit and selected them separately.
So it is very dishonest of you to claim a full system at $429 from Dell.
wait. priam is being dishonest? say it isn't so!
As a man of the cloth, I ask you to forgive him.

VAXman or Mezei, you're just as dumb. What other OS than OS X can you
order when you buy a Mac?
No. I explained this at lenght. Maybe you should learn reading and quote
what I wrote before commenting.

You're right. With a Mac, you get the full version of OS-X. With
Microsoft, there are a gazillion versions of Windows with different
features, pricing. (same with "Office".).
At least OS X *IS* an OS. How may OSs have you ever experienced in your
brief pre-pubescent trolling lifetime?
Almost ? Does that mean when it was new, the browser worked but they
soon stopped ?

Sounds like shortly after you got it, something you did, or a power
surge, or some other event altered one or more files on the disk
causing a problem which was moved to the new iMac when they
"copied my old system over"
> I finally decided this weekend to install SL, hoping it would help. Voila!

So then you installed a new version of the O.S., thereby replacing
whatever file(s) had been corrupted, and/or wiping out some malware
you had allowed in.
(Yes, Macs can get _malware_ if the owner is careless. That statement
does NOT contradict the claim of no known Mac _viruses_.)

Strange, your link has zero to do with completing the customization of
that Dell. I guess your reading skills are missing.
But I digress... Here's the relevant part of the article :

Most likely, the Genius and I agreed.

Will probably never know if it was some sort of malware or some system
glitch, as you suggest.
Obviously, this kind of thing, contrary to fanboi beliefs, can and does
occasionally happen on a mac. I believe it happens much less frequently
on macs than on Windoze machines, but I don't have any numbers to prove
that.
Funny how the fanbois accuse me of being a troll for reporting problems
with my iMac. Of course, I must be a troll! It's impossible for anyone
to have problems with an Apple product!! When I reported these problems
here back when they were first occurring, I was accused of being a troll
then - just making it all up. Must be nice to live in a fantasy world!
My problem is that nothing goes wrong. I mean, I love spyware! Viruses
give life that extra pizzaz! Nothing beats having your data eaten by a
macro virus.

Perhaps when you originally reported the problems you didn't make it
clear that the system had worked for a time and then gone bad.
If you had, someone might have suggested your problem was malware or
a corrupted file and that you should try reinstalling Leopard.
If you did give the whole story at that time and no one made the
suggestion, then shame on us. Nevertheless, if you insist on using
terms like "fanboi" the presumption that you are trolling is natural
and nothing you have said so far makes the accusation unreasonable.

I believe I did, but it's been a long time.

I would have, if the Genius' had suggested it.

Don't worry! I don't mind being called a "troll" by a "fanboi"! Kind of an
honor, actually.
why not start afresh with the new machine the apple store offered you?
you probalby buggered up your old computer with whatever non working
configuration you preferred but thought was awesome at the time and it
simply migrated to your new computer.
duuuhhhh!!!!
