The other day, I picked up a Buffalo Nfiniti router, model
WZR-HP-G300NH, from MicroCenter. This is the first "reasonably"
priced ($109) router I've seen with a built in VPN endpoint.
I've wanted this capability for a long time, so as to be able
to take control of a family members Mac from $DAYJOB when
they call for assistance.

When I set it up and tried it, I was disappointed. I
expected that when I connected, the $DAYJOB network would
effectively vanish and I would appear to be back on my home
network (except for speed.) Instead, when I do get connected,
I can ping and connect to servers on my home network, and also
ping and connect to servers on $DAYJOB network. I do lose
$DAYJOB DNS. Finder continues to show shares on the $DAYJOB
network instead of the other Macs on my home network. iTunes
fails to pick up the other iTunes libraries on the home net.

What am I missing?

MBP, OS X 10.6.2 :

PPTP VPN

[x] send all traffic over VPN connection

I left the other Advanced settings alone. Do I need
to mess with things there?

Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH :

Internet/LAN > VPN Server

PPTP Server Function [x] Enable
Authorization Type MS-CHAPv2 (40/128-bit Encryption)

Server IP Address (x) Auto ( 192.168.234.1 )
Client IP Address (x) Auto ( 192.168.234.2 for up to 5 addresses )
DNS Server IP Addr (x) LAN IP address of the AirStation
WINS Server IP Addr left blank

Here's a review of the router:

Hmm, looks as if the answer is that Bonjour does not work
over VPN connections. :(

I'm bummed (but will continue researching...)
