I need to search for a word contained in a file, in a SPECIFIC FOLDER,
but every time I press command-find it searches my ENTIRE computer,
even if I'm in folder I need to search...

I need to be able to specify:

1) in what location search will take place
2) the KIND of file (no way to specify extension?)

thank you..

command-f. Look at the top of the Finder window, you should see 'this Mac'
and the name of the folder you're in. Select the name of the folder you're
in.

Extensions don't necessarily spec the kind. When you do a command-f you'll
see in the top of the Finder window a pull-down menu named 'kind' and another
one named 'any'. Select the 'any' menu and select the type of document you
want. You can make additional specifications by clicking on the '+' sign at
the far right.

...and there is a great little program called 'find any file' - it is
quick, it is easy, and is much better than spotlight

Lots of folks swear by Spotlight; personally, it never worked completely or
reliably for me. I used EasyFind for quite a while, but it was unwieldy and
slow. I longed for something as simple and fast as Sherlock was on my old
(OS 9) machine.

I tried Find File and File Finder, which were simple and fast, but they
restricted you to searching on files names. I discovered Find Any File about
a month ago, and it seems to have it all -- I've been quite happy with it.

I think you can do what you're interested in in the finder. Navigate
to the folder in question and type your query in the upper right. On
the left side of the finder, under Serch, select the folder you are
interested in, versus This Mac.
