That's 'cause it's a new feature. Can't remember when it arrived, may be
10.4, may be 10.5.

It looks for network shares out there and puts them on the main Finder window
so that you can log into them if you want.

WEP or WPA? Be advised that WEP provides all of the protection of a square of
wet tissue paper. Maybe less.

you need a password to log in.

There are at least two Windows boxes (those are the symbols for WinBoxes) or
two network-connected printers or one of each on your network. The name
'richard-4d7127e' _may_ be a printer, with the '4d7127e' being the last seven
digits of its MAC address. My network-aware (that is, plugged directly into
the network by Ethernet or wireless) printers show up in the 'Shared' section
of the Finder window when they wake up and are identified using the printer
name and the last six digits of their MAC.
If you don't have any WinBoxes or network-aware printers on your net, then
someone else has access to your net.

Well, yeah, he might be logging into someone else's unsecured wireless net.
Appreciate the info.

Thanks.
