Can't add a file to XCode project

Okay, what the hell is going on here? I've got a project to which I
would like to add a header file. But XCode won't let me add it. Add
Current File to Project is greyed out and if I try to add it with Add
to Project the file is greyed out in the file dialog.

GAH!!!!

Under "Groups & Files" on the left-hand side of your main project window, make
sure you have selected the actual project (the first entry in that column).
Then try again to add files.

The files are still greyed out. The workaround was to drag & drop from
the Finder.
I'm increasingly convinced that XCode is very immature compared to
Codewarrior.

I still do all the development with Codewarrior and use XCode only for
