I downloaded a ICC v4 test image and it shows up fine in Finder,
Elements and Pixelmator, but not in Safari or Preview. Clearly the
computer is v4 compliant but some of the apps aren't.

I intend to calibrate the display for v4 and I don't want to create
problems for some of my apps. Is that likely to happen and what do I do
about it?

Is the test image in PNG or JPEG format? Or something else?

I discovered the problem. My installed ICC profile is supposed to be v4
but it isn't. If I use one of the built-in profiles Preview and Safari
work fine. Now I have to figure out why the installed profile isn't
correct.

PDF, but it turns out that isn't the problem.
