you asked that in alt.photography. why do you think you'll get a
different answer here?
Because alt.photography gave me a PC solution (maybe) that I can't use.

Thanks.

Doesn't provide a way to set Capture Date. It will set creation date,
but I can do that with exiftool.

Recommends exiftool, which I have.

Editing software.
I thought the field might be Create Date because digital photos list
that twice. However, when I tried adding "Create Date" to a scanned
image, exiftool sees it but iView doesn't see it. So, I am missing
something.
Can anybody help?
More info. Using the -G option on a digital photo, it appears the info
of interest is in the "Composite" group. That group does not exist for
a scanned image and an attempt to set a field like Composite:CreateDate
fails because it does not already exist. So, is there a way with
exiftool to create a new field? I can't find it in the man page, but
that doesn't mean it can't be done.
Still more info. I have been made aware exiftool runs on many
platforms. It is possible it cannot create a field. However, there may
be a Mac app that does. Is anybody aware of one?
if exiftool can't do it then it's likely nothing else can, and i'd be
really surprised if it can't.
You may be right. I have discovered I can read a field that actually
exists, Composite:ImageSize, but I cannot change it (See recent post in
alt.photography). I think the format of my command may be wrong!
