Mac Mini Won't Recognise my Monitor Any More

When I first set up my Mac Mini, straight out of the box it recognised
my LCD monitor (Hitachi 17LD4200), as it allowed me to select a number
of "widescreen" settings, used a specific colour profile for it, and
listed it in System Profile. However, after I had to do a hard reset
(i.e. switch the Mac off with the power switch), when it rebooted the
display settings had changed to a standard 800x600. When I tried to
change back, all the widescreen resolutions are no longer available,
the only colour profiles I can get are the "standard" ones, and System
Profile just shows it as a generic CRT display.

I've even tried totally re-installing Panther, but it still just
recognises it as a generic CRT display. How can I get my Mac to
recognise the monitor like it originally did, either automatically or
by "telling" it? I can't believe anything has actually changed with
the monitor itself, as it was only 2 days ago that I set the Mac up in
the first place, and out of the box it all worked fine until the hard
reset!

Any help, much appreciated!

Thanks,

Neil

Well, I seem to have sorted this out for myself - in case anyone else
has the same problem, this is what I did:

1. Shut down Mac
2. Disconnected monitor cable from back of Mac
3. Switched Mac on (with no monitor connected)
4. Once I was happy that it had booted up, reconnected monitor
5. Shut down Mac
6. Powered-up Mac

All fixed!

Not sure that step 4 actually made any difference (and it was probably
a bit naughty connecting the monitor with the Mac already on), but it
meant I could see what I was doing to perform a proper shut down.
