Heya folks Just to let you know I have hardly any knowledge on Macs, however I am improving slightly... My friend's Mac crashed and burned, however data recovery is going to cost them quoted at around.. $700 - $1500 smacks to retrieve and stick on a USB. That's just plain stupid - or isn't it? Recovering data from... more »

Need help with a Seagate FreeAgent GO external drive
iBook G4, OS 10.4.11 I just bought this Seagate 320GB portable drive; it is NOT Mac specific, and comes with a couple apps for Windows on it. When I try to move the contents of my smaller LaCie drive to the new Seagate, I get this message: "The item "LACIE 40GB" could not be moved because "FreeAgent drive" cannot be modified." WTF?... more »

Iomega home media network drive, date&time
I have a 500GB Iomega home media network drive (with most recent firmware), used mostly for backing up a couple of Macs. I told the drive to synchronize date and time with my Mac (OSX 10.4.11). It seems to do that, except that it displays a time precisely 4 hours later than the Mac does. Since the Mac is on EDT, presumably the drive is... more »

Time Capsule power supply early death
We've started to see a flock of problems (well, six to date) with Time Capsules bought in the Feb-May 2008 timeframe. They can be either the 1 TB or the 500 GB model (four 1 TB, two 500 GB so far) and in all cases they were working just fine until they suddenly, usually overnight, stopped dead. As in... more »

Lacie drive fixed by swapping chasis
Solution Found: I had a failed 250GB drive which I could not access. After trying the steps that Lacie suggests (swapping cables and power supply) and reading this board and others I tried the "freezer" trick, which did not work. Then I tried swapping the Lacie covers/chassis with a working drive of the same size/model and was able to... more »
