I was trying to clone my Time Machine backup onto a new external drive.
Best advice seemed to be to use Disk Utility's Restore command.
But after going a fair way through the process, I got the message
"Cannot restore. Input/output error".
Presumably this means a problem on either the drive that has been used
for TM backup or the new drive. Is there any way to work out where the
problem is?
Both drives are partitioned, and copying between the other partitions
seems fine.
I must admit that I thought that Restore did a block-level copy, and
that this meant that file corruption (if any) would not prevent copying.
After the failure I verified both drives, and Disk Utility reported that
they were OK. But somehow on the new drive the name of the drive had
changed from the name I gave it to "Untitled".
