Airport suddenly needs to be rebooted every day
I have a client with an AirPort Extreme. He has been using it for several years without a problem. Suddenly EVERY day (definitely when he wakes up in the morning and sometimes at other points in the day - as far as I can tell when the computer is idle) the status light blinks yellow. When this happens he looses the wireless connection. If I plug an ethernet... more »

How user-serviceable are the new minis?
I have an old iMac G5 which is quite easy to crack open and swap the hard drive, battery or whatever, but I understand Apple has gone downhill in this area in recent years. I was thinking of a Mini for an upgrade and wanted to get a sense of how servicable is it. You know, RAM, drives, etc... I know it's very compact, which is one reason I want it. Thanks,... more »

Magic Mouse and Spaces
I'm one who has become quite fond of Spaces, assigning my various applications to different spaces. I'm currently using a Kensington Slimblade Presenter mouse which has two buttons and a scroll wheel which also functions as a button. Pressing the button takes me into and out of the Spaces panel where I can select which of the sixteen spaces I wish to be active.... more »

Internal Optical Drive iMac Intel
The optical drive on one of my iMacs has decided to go tits-up. Basically it does the following: 1 sometimes it declines to read a disc. If a disc is inserted into the drive, the drive will whirr a few times, then spit it out. If the disc is reinserted it will usually mount. Sometimes a disc might have to be reinserted two or... more »

Need parts for a G4, the lid, or the display?
Somehow, the hinge part of the lid of an aluminum G4 Power Book broke for a friend of mine, and he is looking to buyy the outer lid, or perhaps the whole display. Or perhaps a whole aluminum G4 sold for parts. Does anyone have one?? Are there other newsgroups or forums where this post is more likely to... more »

Are the internal speakers shut off -- or not?
Suppose you're operating a MacBook with the internal speakers set to maximum volume, but with some audio cable plugged into the headphone output. The volume of the output speakers then drops to zero -- unless you shut down your MacBook (with the audio peripheral still plugged in) and restart it using the power button -- in which case the startup "Bong!"... more »
