Mac Pro latches

On a Mac Pro desktop, the hard drive carriers can be pulled out from the
bays when the cover latch is open. Above the carriers are some latch
levers. What purpose do these items have?

Those fit into corresponding slots on the inside of the cover. When you
close the lever on the back of the computer, they slide and interlock
with the cover to secure it.
