Just "upgraded" from Photoshop Elements 3 to Photoshop Elements 6, and
discovered that I intensely dislike the black-on-black cosmetics Adobe
has adopted for all the toolbars, palettes, and bins in PSE 6. Any way
to change the default background and foreground colors for all those
elements? (I haven't found a preferences setting for this.)

And if I next upgrade my older versions of Illustrator and Acrobat, will
I encounter the same thing?

[And as a separate gripe, Adobe support tells me that I _must_ in the
future name _all_ my Adobe apps (and also all of their enclosing
folders in the Applications folder) as "*Adobe* Photoshop Elements" and
"*Adobe* Illustrator" and "*Adobe* Acrobat" and "*Adobe* Bridge" and
"*Adobe* Help Viewer* and "*Adobe* Stock Photos" and on and on. If I
delete any of those annoying and unnecessary *Adobe*'s, my whole suite
of applications may stop working.

I thought it was only companies like Microsoft that enforced this kind
of stupid and tawdry garbage on its users.]

Trash them and use GIMP and Inkscape instead?

Didn't you try out the program before buying? It is available for
tryout.

Ask Adobe.

Why is it such a problem to keep all the Adobe applications in the same
folder. They take up little space.

Your problem is your fault. You could try PSE 4. IIRC it has about
the same format as 3.

I can't comment on Photoshop Elements, but I'm finding that Pixelmator, which
costs around $50, is providing me with those capabilities of Photoshop that I
actually use at a price far, far less than the photo editing software from
Adobe.

Why did you post this in the group comp.text.pdf?

However, Pixelmator also favours the 'black' look, so the OP will
probably hate that too -- for that matter, I'm not all that fond of it
either (the black look, not Pixelmator per se).

I will admit that for me it did take a bit of getting used to the "black
look" of Pixelator, but as of now I have adapted to it. I will say it would
be nice if one had a choice of themes.
