trying to connect iPad to MacBook Pro over TCP

I have a couple apps that work just fine. However, I wanted to be able to demo the apps even when there is no network available. On a plane, for example. What I tried to do is leave wi-fi on. Then I create a network, call it MyNet, on the MacBook. I see it has a self assigned ip address. I then connect the iPad to the MacBook network. It gets another IP address.... more »

Macs and PC on either wifi router

My friend’s home broadband from Comcast (cable modem) is the starting point for his wifi. He has a netgear wireless router. His daughter has a Mac laptop and she made him go out and buy an airport years ago the old white round model for her to get the wifi.
I said that I thought he did not need one or the other for any of their PCs or Macs to receive the wifi. Who was right?... more »

Although I got the email yesterday, Safari 6.0.4 doesn't show up for me yet in Software Update.
Xcode and iPhoto updates currently coming down.
Fortunately the Xcode one is only 78 MB, not the whole thing.

My Mac is an 867 MHz Quicksilver, running OS 10.5.8

Question about using a Skype number and dialing 911

Hi. I've decided I'm paying way too much for my landline number and I'm considering switching to Skype.
However, if I use Skype, I can't dial 911 in an emergency. Does anyone know if there is a way to have access to 911 through some other provider, without paying for any other services?

Is it actually clearing the entire cache, or simply clearing your
history? If the latter, there's a separate option for that in the
privacy settings. Disclaimer: I really don't remember if that option
