Airport Express (n) on a g network
My sweet old AirportExpress bit the dust. Not bad; eBay for $50 3 years ago, very heavy work since. I guess I'm going to buy an n AE and so am wondering. It will connect to the main wireless base station, a Netgear WGR614, via a Cat5 cable. We have a couple of n machines. Will we get n speed from the AE?... more »

bad server response
For the past two weeks or so, I have been getting the following message whenever I try to access delicious.com. I'm not sure what it does or why it does it, but it happens with at least two versions of Safari (2.0.4 (419.3) under 10.4.9) and the newer 3.x version included with 10.4.11. "Safari canıt open the page ³[link]. The error... more »

Question about LANWAN Ethernet connector (DSL modem)
I know nothing about DSL modems. Already tried googling for "purpose of LANWAN connection, but all I get are tech specs, nothing a newbie can understand about what that "Local Area Network Wide Area Network" connector is actually used for. I have 5 Ethernet jacks labelled 1 2 3 4 LANWAN Does not seem to matter whether I connect the ethernet cable... more »

Configure two macs to work Wirelessly
I have been trying unsuccessfully to get two macs to work together with their built in airport cards One is a Laptop G4 running 10.5 and the other is a desk top intel running 10. 4. Whatever I have read on the subject is a narrative of what they can do but not how to do it, I could have read that on the box when they arrived !... more »

Comcast pulling plug on usenet, other ISPs to follow
I don't mean *all* other, but there is a consortium of ISPs who have pledged to cutoff usenet access in the fight against child porn. I think Verizon cut off the entire alt. tree. Comcast is now pulling the plug.

Network Settings Changed by Another Application?
iBook G4, 1.42GHz, OS 10.4.11, 512MB memory I applied the latest software updates via Software Update to my daughter's iBook. Shutdown and restarted from her installer disk to repair permissions and verify the disk. The disk was ok but permissions needed repairing which were done successfully. When I launched Network... more »

CPU "Hogging" - Need Help
QUESTION: How can I monitor in greater detail how my CPU is being utilized? Can you suggest a program, or can I do it directly on the iMac. REASON FOR ASKING: Shortly after turning on my iMac (OS 10.5.5) the fans start running at a very high rate (about 3400 rpm for the CPU fan) and the iMac is very noisy. I have installed a widget the... more »

Leopard, localhost POP3, MailServe
Using "MailServe for Leopard 3.0.4", I want to get POP3 working for localhost -- primarily for when some software sends a message to me by mail. This is working on an Intel Mac Pro; it was working on a G5; but it is *not* working on my new iMac. As far as I can tell, everything is set up the same (both in MailServe and in Mail). But trying it... more »

MT-NW and Motzarella
Since Comcast is getting rid of their newsgroup service, I signed up with Motzarella.org a few days ago. Since then, I've noticed that MT-Newswatcher often crashes when I quit. Nothing is lost, since I was quitting anyway, but it's annoying. Anyone else experiencing this? Process: MT-NewsWatcher [16520]... more »
