I was attempting to enter a new email address for 1&1 by the way, I hit
the odd key, and suddenly it cleared my notes saved the address.

Fine, I went to edit it again and something else odd happened.

Now that address isn't in my address book. I don't care.

But now the search facility doesn't work. No matter what I type in, it
finds nothing, though if I click on an address in the left-hand panel
it will display it in the right.

I don't know what the heck I did, but if someone can help that would be great.

Where is my address book contents saved. I thought it was in Library
or System in my user account. But I note that I have neither a Library
or a System present. So I assume that is the handiwork of Lion.

1) Where is the address book information stored, so I may be able to
get it from backup.

2) How to I get my library/system folders to display in user accounts

Many thanks for any info!

If I click on the left-hand panel the right hand panel does NOT change.
If I change it to single panel mode two left/right buttons appear.
Neither does anything.

I've rebooted. I think I need to get my back up of the addressbook
storage but can't figure out where it is.

Everything is in ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook. Probably
simplest to just restory this whole folder.

Thanks, Barry. How do I make ~/Library visible under Lion (10.7.3)?

Further updates. While continuing to monkey arround I created some more
new cars but they didn't come up for editing as usual. Eventually I
found them past Z in the alpha list under "#", along with the 1&1 card.
I renamed 1&1 to OneAndOne, but it wouldn't save that way.

I deleted one "No Name", said yes to the "are you sure" panel. But the
panel didn't go away. I quit/restarted the program and continued to
delete the "No Names" and finally the 1&1.

Whereupon the program began working appropriately. Man it does it not
like ampersands in a title! Either that or there is a "make life
intolerable" hotkey that I accidentally hit!

Forget my explicit statement of sloth--I got it.

LOL!

Watch out Apple! Microsoft have probably patented that "make life
intolerable" hotkey ;-)

Maybe some of the files used by AB are in XML format. & is a special
character in XML, and maybe it doesn't properly convert it when writing
the file.

A lifetime in programming taught me that no matter what code you're
writing or what you'r doing, one should never put an ampersand anywhere.

I slipped out of gear for a minute. My brain transmission is getting iffy.
