Numbers.app LOOKUP() bug?

Trying to use LOOKUP() in Apple's Numbers.app, without any luck. Even
reproducing the simple example given by Apple at
<http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Numbers/1.0/en/c12la91.html
> for all of the 3 LOOKUP() formulas given there Numbers keeps saying "The formula contains a syntax error".
Any other formula in the same cell in the same table works fine, just
LOOKUP() fails.
Any ideas?

Which version of Numbers are you running, and have you installed all
available updates?
I have Numbers '09 2.1, and Numbers '08 1.0.3.
