File Conversion: .srt to .idx/.sub

Does anyone know of a way to convert text-based .srt subtitle files
(usually paired) with avi files to the .idx/.sub approach which is
image based?
I've scoured the net and find windows solutions and a number of
requests for this on the mac, but no of no utility that will do it.
Any aid appreciated.
