Using Safari 6.0

I now have tabs just above my browser windows. How do I get rid of them? I like my back button. Is this a part of 6.0. Anyway, I'm not sure of the technical name for these tabs but I would like to lose them. Your help would be appreciated. Thanks.

"Safari Preferences->Tabs->Open pages in tabs instead of windows->Never"
would be my guess, but I haven't tried it.
