Reliable Rumours (TM) have reached me from various parties that on the
CD-ROM included with the May 24, 1996 edition of MacUser, a file has been
identified containing a virus.

NO Cause for Alarm

This should not be a big problem for anyone, really, as everyone has the
Disinfectant INIT installed in their System Folder, right?!? It prevents
the critter from spreading or causing any harm.

It is not possible to remove the virus from a file on a CD-ROM (which is
Read-Only, of course), but if you make copies of it to other media (floppies
or your hard disk), you do want to remove the virus with the scanning and
repair software you prefer.

3.6 is the latest Disinfectant version and you can find it in all the
standard archive sites, including the ones I maintain on HIPARK for
anti-viral utilities and information. Check out:

according to the rumours :

...the virus is contained in a Director movie called "Blah Blah Blah,
It's QTVR" in the QuickTime VR demos -- in a folder called AMXDigital
QTVR Folder and is of type MDBF-A. No other files have been reported
as infected or even suspect.
