Having a case with removable parts involves more volume
consumption. It's a tradeoff with small form factors. iPod
users should be used to it.

Apple is pushing how green this is - but it is clearly disposable... when
the battery dies you can pretty much just throw it away.

I have no particular objection to the lack of user-replaceable batteries
in principle, but I do think Apple should offer a < 1 day replacement
service via its stores. (Drop off in the morning, pick up in the
evening, or whatever.)

I would like to see that - and to keep the price quite reasonable.

The answer to the water shortage is to dilute it.

Several web sites report that, yes it's replaceable and only requires a
phillips screwdriver to do so. Apple will charge $129, so 3rd party will
be much less.
Bottom Line: If you have ever installed any type of hardware in any kind
of computer you will be able to replace the battery in 5 minutes or less.
And, surely, be able to get third party ones for less than Apple charges.

Somehow, I don't think it will be that much less. Look at the price of a
battery for a MacBook or a MacBook Pro.

$129 seems like a fairly standard price for a laptop battery, so I doubt
third-parties will be all that much cheaper.
You're gonna have to has this out with the "technically competent" Snit,
he called the Macbook Air "disposable":

I'll be hiring Snit for all my computing needs. LOL!
