So you're the guy who still pays attention to Cringely. I heard he
still had a fan.
Jim / Mike has a continually playing slide show in his head. The cheap
swill has poked holes in his brain.
Cringely has far more sources and insight that you, clyde.
--
Jim
He's got more skill at self-promotion is about all. I quit paying
attention to him years ago. The only times he's right are when he's
declaring a trend that's already been going on for a while and acts as
if he discovered it. Whenever he does go out on a limb and do some
original predicting he's almost as ludicrous as he is wrong.
I think you just described Dvorak.
The Mayor's always been confused.
--
Jim
Speaking of confused...did you ever figure out what your alleged
advanced degree was in, what school gave it to you and in what year?
I love the irony of someone who is desperate to remain anonymous
complaining that someone who's posted under his own name won't reveal
enough about himself to please Clyde...

"The iPhone doesn't have a speaker phone" -- "I checked very carefully" --
"I checked Apple's web pages" -- Edwin on the iPhone

How soon they forget...I'm mocking Jim for suddenly 'remembering' that
he had an advanced degree in either physics or mathematics, Jim
couldn't remember which one, in order to declare victory. It was
probably the lamest thing I've ever seen that wasn't done by you.
And speaking of lame, could you get a few more Edwin quotes for that
tome of a sig you have? Edwin's been gone for quite a while and you're
still obsessed with him.
He didn't "suddenly" remember anything.

LOL
Edwin may be gone at the moment, but he's been here quite recently.
As for my sig: why change? :-)
Which is actually my point. He couldn't have suddenlt remembered what
he never had. That he suddenly tried to pass himself off as having the
degree is what makes it lame.

I recall you making the claim that someone was Edwin. But that
couldn't possibly be a symptom of your creepy obsession, could it?

Why, indeed. If looking like a creepy, obsessed stalker type is your
goal then why would you want to change?
Do you ever get over anything? Seriously. Its not all hard to imagine
that you have a list somewhere of everything anyone's ever done to
cross you and that you sit and read and reread it every night for
hours. It probably has the name of some kid in kindergarten who took
the paste you wanted you eat as a first entry.

Nope, because no such obsession exists.

If you think that's what it makes me look like, the problem is yours.

LOL
what insights do you think was in that article? that we're in the
middle of more mobile computing? wow, really? gee, glad he put that
one out there! :D that he's predicting that we'll have mind control
devices- well, other people have thought about that and it's and
active topic of research. so what exactly do you find so insightful?
What's even more ironic is that clyde can't even get the facts right.
1) I never claimed to have an "Advanced" degree, only a degree.
2) The degree was from a midwest university in Math, Chemistry or Physics.
3) The year matters to clyde for some reason so long as it's not perhaps 1919.
4) clyde dredges this up yet again only because I don't want to give him
information that doesn't matter to him other than I have it and he doesn't have
one of those degrees.
OTOH clyde never told us what trailer park he lives in out Indiana way.
--
Jim
I find it more interesting that Cringely gets beyond the generality of just
saying mobile is the future. He delves more into the specifics of what is now
and how we perhaps should deal with the present shortcomings. He's throwing out
things to consider. Ideas if you will and by doing so challenges the reader to
perhaps challenge his ideas and bring something to the party. Thus it's far more
than fluff...and I don't see too many other folks going out on the limb and
looking at the future as he is now. I conjecture lost on you ed? I wouldn't
think so, thus what he does is valid.
--
Jim
IOW you still can't remember what made up school gave you your made up
degree. No surprise there.
> OTOH clyde never told us what trailer park he lives in out Indiana way.
I don't live in one. What crack house in Chicago do you live in?
no jim, conjecture is not lost on me- but how is hypothesizing about
things that active research topics bringing anything to the table?
the researchers are already looking at those things and exploring how
they will be used. it'd be like me saying that the future of
transportation will include more renewable fuel sources, maybe
including fuel cells. wow, no, you don't say?! :P
Those are VERY BROAD topics and devoid of specifics. That's not enough to have
some general direction. It would be like my asking you to do a photo of a Peach.
What kind of photo would be the obvious next queston and in an analogous manner,
that's what Cringely is doing. But he has a vehicle for his opinions. You don't
really and nor do I have anything equivalent that has the possibility of
affecting things.
While I read his stuff, I've also taken the time to email and take a poke at
what he's said, and he does respond. Does that influence anything? I don't know,
but it's an effort. Have you gone that far?
--
Jim
That I do have the degree and choose not to tell you, or edlost, doesn't mean I
don't have a degree. That's what's lame on your part, but that's also what's
expected of you in the NG.
Snippage...

Jim
d'uh- as is what cringely is saying!

fuel cells isn't enough to have a general direction?

> What kind of photo would be the obvious next queston and in an analogous manner,

no, he's actually LESS specific than the example i gave- he gives no
specific mechanism for controlling computers w/ your mind.
> But he has a vehicle for his opinions. You don't
> really and nor do I have anything equivalent that has the possibility of

no, he gives no specifics, and only broadly talks about topics already
being researched.
> While I read his stuff, I've also taken the time to email and take a poke at
> what he's said, and he does respond. Does that influence anything? I don't know,

no, because there's no point- he's only talking about stuff OTHER
PEOPLE are already researching, and that OTHER PEOPLE thought of long
ago, and doing so in a very general manner.
Oh sure I can. You just don't like that I won't tell you more specifically and
it burns you...that's what OC disorders do. Get Treatment.

Why do you act like you live in a trailer park, wear dego-t's and go on and on
as you do? The reasons are few.

Wow. So Jim 'Certain Demographics' Polaski adds Italians to the list
of people he hates. So far we've got blacks, Hispanics, Italians,
people who don't live in urban slums and food service employees. The
list of people Jim hates just keeps expanding.
And note that Jim doesn't deny that he lives in a crack house. Also
note that his rambling, incoherent post seems to indicate that as
well.
You're the one saying I hate Italians, not me clyde. They have great food and
great music. Nothing to hate, but then putting words in folks mouths is your
specialty as you try and do it so often.
No crack houses at all clyde but....You're the master of putting words in folks
mouths and making wild accusations as you do here. You're such a low-life
clyde...and that's pertains to YOU, no matter what you are nationality wise and
doesn't speak to any denomination at all, only you, solely you.
--
Jim
It's not enough to say they can be built...one does need specifics beyond that
if one is to define uses which completes the discussion. You have to define an
endpoint, not just waltz in vague generality.

Not a specific mechanism, but one needs to discuss what you might achieve with
that kind of control supposing you had it in a computer. Otherwise, it's a
fruitless discussion for only it's own sake.

You can stay on whatever head of a pin you want to ed. I don't care. The bottom
line is you don't like Cringely and will be critical of whatever he'd choose to
discuss.

So its your assertion that I somehow caused you to post 'dego'? Or are
you saying that you used the term 'affectionately?

Can you really deny you live in a crack house after that posting that
bit of tortured prose?
dude, you're crazy if you're going to say a specific item- like using
fuel cells - is vague, but cringley's statement that you're going to
'use your mind' to control a computer is... somehow more specific?!

go back and read the article dude!

why would you say that? - i essentially have no opinion of cringely
whatsoever; i'm not even sure i've ever read anything of his other
than this article, and if i had, i certainly don't recall it enough to
have it form an opinion of the man for me...
It's an ever-so-common description of an article of clothing. Then again you do
like to pick fly-crap out of pepper. Get a life.

I don't have any hate for anyone clyde. If I did, I certainly wouldn't have
visitied a shop last week, a new business, run by a Muslim fellow and get my
cell phone fixed. We had a great talk for about 30 mins after he fixed the phone.

Of course I can, and do clyde. You're really down in the low-life end of the
barrel.

Jim
No it isn't. I've never heard the term before. A search on Bing,
Google and Yahoo yields no hits on the term.

You haters usually do consider it to be something else.
> If I did, I certainly wouldn't have visitied a shop last week, a new business, run by a Muslim fellow and get my cell phone fixed. We had a great talk for about 30 mins after he fixed the phone.
LOL! I'm sure he's as every bit as real as your degree and the college
that gave it to you.

But not very effectively.

If I were I'd be able to look down and see you.
i've also never heard the term, but i can get some search results out
of google- only about 5000 though... so probably not all that common-
except maybe amongst jim's circle of acquaintances so he thinks it's
super common- given how many hits google gets on just about
anything.
but even then, jim seems to be implying that if a slur is common it's
ok? wow.
<snip>
I get hits but none of them are for dego-t. Most of them are for the
word as an epithet and some are for people with the name Dego. The
closest thing to Jim's use of the term is a designer named Donny Dego
who has designed t-shirts among other things.
And why are you surprised? In a debate about the merits of computers
in schools Jim kept pointing to his own school district. I looked up
the stats for it and found that its a below average performer
according to the Illinois Dept. of Education. When confronted with
this Jim said it was 'certain demographics' keeping them down. That
speaks volumes about who Jim is.
It's spelled DAGO, not dego, and it's an ethnic epithet for an Italian (or
less often, a Spaniard)
Cringley is such an idiot sometimes:
> This seminal role for the iPhone is mainly by chance, I think. Its
> success is deserved no more than it is undeserved. The role could have
> fallen to Android or WebOS if they had been earlier or even to Windows
> Mobile if it had been a bit better. Steve Jobs proved his luck again
> by dragging his feet just long enough to fall into the sweet spot for a
> whole new industry. Thats not to say he cant still blow it, but he
> has the advantage for now.
He classifies it as the first of a new paradigm, under the insightful
leadership of a visionary.
He also mentions it follows Windows Mobile (by years), a product which
did nothing to further the new paradigm, but insists it must be
accidental, even though what he is citing is something it was designed
specifically to do.
At the same time he calls it early, he also calls it late: (Jobs
dragging his feet) and probably due only to luck (even though
everything was deliberately designed to be just that over years!).
The he dumps in some comment about 'blowing it,' which isn't the
subject of the article or paragraph, nor is there any reason to imply
iPhone can't get better just as everything else does.
He's as bad as a troll; taking every chance to hint at Apple's screwups
while having to admit (because he knows the industry at least a little)
that Apple is ahead of everyone and everything else.
FWIW, it's a descriptive term we've always used here with no connotation of
negativity, but to describe the clothing as opposed to a tee-shirt with sleeves
no matter who was wearing it. No negative things in the least klyde other than
you trying desperately to make something of nothing.
>

No klyde, I have no hate for really anyone, even you, even girlie zara. There
are other words that echo how I feel, but not hate language. Period. Get over it.

Oh klyde he's very real and his shop is very real and he just opened it. Found
him on Craigs list too. I wished him the best with his new business. As I said,
we had a pleasant conversation for about a half hour.

obviously because that's irrelevant to this ONE article you posted
