applications on the Google Play store.
Now if only Apple had a way to capitalize on the Android fragmentation.
If everything else was equal then this difference might be enough to
persuade customers to choose iOS over Android. Unfortunately there are
many other considerations that go into choosing an ecosystem. Apple has
the advantage in some, but Android, by the sheer number of choices in
hardware and the lack of the walled garden, has an advantage that's
tough to overcome. There are several Android apps that I use on a daily
basis for which there are no iOS equivalents, and in most cases there
can't be an iOS equivalent because iOS makes it not possible for a
developer to write such apps (in some cases these apps are available on
jailbroken iOS devices).

consistent. It's safe. It's an excellent user interface. The learning
curve is a little shorter for a new iOS device if you have an existing
iOS device. If Google could do something about the fragmentation then
they probably could gain even more market share.
What Apple needs to do is to stop being a follower when it comes to
vital features. They took a very long time to come out with an LTE
iPhone and when they did they failed to allow simultaneous voice and
data on the largest carrier in the U.S.. They are late with a larger
screen iPhone. Being late with NFC is no big deal since it's not used
much yet, but they'll have to add it soon.
What I really want for Android is a music management system that can
rival iTunes.

Adding the missing hardware features is pretty easy and the additional
parts and manufacturing cost would likely more than be made up by the
increased sales. But you have to look at the big picture and take into
account increased support costs, and increased warranty repair costs.
There's also the danger of adding the missing features too quickly and
disrupting the replacement cycle.
