MACCIES are fond of posting the Amazon top sellers list around this
time of year. So far it has not appeared. Strange? No. In years
past Crapple products were near, or at, the top of their computer gear
list. This year, not so.

Given the fact that Apple's laptop sales are heavily concentrated in
few models with standard colors the showing from HP, Acer and ASUS is
especially impressive. Consider that the Acer AOD250 took 2 out of
the 3 top spots and the only difference is the blue versus black shell
color.

13" Macbook models took #8, #14 and #17. There were no 15" or 17" Mac
models in the rankings. No doubt, those rankings were boosted by the
lack of choice of Apple fanbois as they order their toyz and send
their last dime to Jobs.

As a public service to all at CSMA here is the list as of 12/28/09:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/pc/ref=pd_ts_pc_nav (list is
dynamic, and will change over time as Amazon updates sales)

Netbooks are laptops just like Mac Air's.

Wow, thanks for the great list! It runs seven models of cheap, sub-$400 crap,
then jumps to the MacBook. And of all non-netbook units in the top 17, Apple

And Tommy is fond of posting selective information to hide the truth that is
so painful to him; to wit, Alan Baker's links to top desktops (Apple at 6 of
10) and top laptops (4 of 10), not to mention the number of days held.

Of course you are wrong. Amazon treats it as a laptop, where it was
#60-something. If it were treated as a netbook, it may have placed better.

Even if you choose to ignore (a) that this list is a mix of product and (b)
Apple was at the top of the laptop and desktop list, it's still a good list.
Once you get beyond the cheap crap, Apple sells well. Thanks for pointing

Yes there is. If Acer sells the most because they sell cheap crap then
Apple sales increases are due to Apple products becoming crappier.

You can't have it both ways, more Apple sales meaning good products for
Apple, and more sales for anybody else meaning those others are crap.

Thanks for pointing the little-known fact that netbooks are computers. Of all
the crap computers, Acer sold the most. Of the serious computers, Apple sold
the most. Of all computers, Acer sold the most, but that was never news, as
crap netbooks with a dollar profit have been selling well.

When Apple sells a $400 netbook that falls apart and they make the top of the

Those aren't the rules you established. Any increase in Apple sales is
due to their products becoming crappier. It would have to mean that if a
cheap product that falls apart is what can make it to the top of the list.

Thanks for the far more honest look than what Tommy did.

Currently, it shows four (4) Apples within the top 10 (#3 (69), #5
(204), #7 (204), 10 (204)), and FYI, two of them (#5, #7) are 13"
MacBook Pros with different SKUs.

The rest of the Macs are 27 (203), 28 (203), 41 (203), 71 (200), 76
(398).

FYI, the numbers in ( ) are the number of days on Amazon's "Top 100",
however they calculate that. What's pretty interesting about the
market is that with one exception, all of the listed Apple products
have been in this Top 100 for 200+ days.

When looking through the list for comparable Windows laptops, there's
a cluster at 70-71 days (technically longer than the newest top-seller
Mac but IMO not significantly so) and then nothing more until you're
well over 100 days, whereupon the entire Amazon list of Windows
laptops consists of:

#25 (144) - HP Pavilion DV2-1110US 12.1-Inch Entertainment Laptop by
Hewlett-Packard
#29 (129) - Acer Aspire AS1410-8414 11.6-Inch Sapphire Blue Laptop
#46 (793) - Dell D600 Laptop 1.6ghz 40gb DVD/CDRW B Grade

FWIW, this last one is an interesting standout: two full years on
Amazon's Top 100 list! Kind of interesting in how that one particular
model seems to be resistant to the more rapid product SKU rolloever in
the PC marketplace.

Look at this hour's list and combining notebook and desktop top ten, there
are oddly six 69 (five Apple) and seven 71 (mixed). There are three 204, all
Apple. That's a kind of weird clustering. Were there a bunch of Apples that
came available on Amazon 69 days ago?

You said the Air is a netbook, then you were asked to find another netbook
with similar parameters. No redefinition; only a request to find another
sample.

Tons out there. All you have to do is look. But none at $1800, so I guess
we can't use that parameter.

No problem, although it starts at $1500 anyway. The parameters asked for were
screen and processors.

I feel fatigued now. The changing parameters have tired me.

It's not a coincidence, that Latitude model D600 was a popular model
amongst businesses and Dell made commitments to keep that model around
longer as many had standardized on it. (D610 also) Dell hasn't made
it in ages so you must be seeing a used/refurb listing.

presenting it in a few thousand words as his "expert" opinion..

Of course it's true!

It's not made untrue by creating arbitrary "categories" for the purpose of
making Apple a "winner." LOL
