Where's the Halo edition of iPod? What? There is none?
That can't be good for Apple...
How could Apple put out a product that used Microsoft's intellectual
property in that manner?

As long as losing lots of sales doesn't hurt.

I see your fear of the Zune has made you reluctant to continue to discuss
the iPod. You'll have to explain your obsessions for yourself, however.

likely.

Yeah, this will take iPod sales away.

You think a tie-in to a successful product is a sign of "desperation?"
You must have came by that opinion by watching Apple announce the iMac as

Care to explain why you didn't say "I am using Vista" and instead told

Apple doesn't have a red version of the iPod models I buy,
unfortunately. If they did, I would buy it in a heartbeat. The shuffle
and nano isn't anything for me. Still, I would *rather* buy a red
shuffle or nano that support aids research than a Halo zune that only
support Microsoft.

"nothing but net"? I'm not familiar with that expression.
Ok, I'll call you on it. Will you buy an Xbox 360 and Halo 3 if I buy
a red iPod? I would love to do it, but I won't do it just to lived up

You're using that as a selling advantage for a product you didn't buy.
You're nothing short of reprehensible, first to use AIDS as a marketing
tool, and then to have used it that way for a product you didn't even buy.

Are you still wishing you could buy a red iPod? You wishing to buy one of
those is better than somebody buying a Halo 3 Zune, right? You're donating
your imaginary money to AIDS research with every red iPod you wish you could
buy, but don't. That makes you so much better than Zune buyers (in your

Nope. Statistically Zune already took 11% of the market away from iPod even
without the Halo 3 player.
"Retail research firm NPD Group report that for December, Zune represented
10.2% of all units sold. These numbers are for the 30Gb Hard-disk based MP3
players only. The Zune market share is well below if you look at the MP3
market as one category. For 45 days of sales since the introduction of the
Zune, this is no bad at all. That growth is also in line with Microsoft's
expectations of exceeding 1 million units in sales by June 30."

I'm happy to put my money where my mouth is. In fact, I have done more
than you with regards to Halo 3:
http://sandman.net/files/halo1.jpg
http://sandman.net/files/halo2.jpg
If you buy a Xbox 360, Halo3 and the Halo edition of the Zune, I'll
buy one of every product read products Apple has (nano and shuffle)
without a doubt.
Tell you what, the zune seems to suck, so I'm ok with you just buying
a Xbox 360 and Halo 3. There are probably lots of package deals to be
find in your town that has both.
Post receipts.

As opposed to Xbox 360, Helo 3 and the Halo Zune you are talking about
but haven't bought?

Actually, yes. Wishing to buy things to promote AIDS research is a lot
*better* than buying products that does not. Actually buying a product
red would be even better, but I'm still ahead morally.

" Microsoft Corp.'s Zune device dropped to fifth place from second in the
U.S. market for digital media players in its second week in stores, market
researcher NPD Group Inc. said.
Zune captured 2.1 percent of the market in the week ended Nov. 25, said
Stephen Baker, an analyst at Port Washington, New York-based NPD, in an
interview today. Baker said Apple Computer Inc.'s iPod remained the leader,
with 39.4 percent that week, based on units sold.
Zune's market share declined as SanDisk Corp. boosted sales with a 50
percent price cut on its media players, taking a 39.3 percent share and
knocking Microsoft from the No. 2 spot it occupied in its first week in the
market. Redmond, Washington- based Microsoft sold about the same number of
units as the previous week, failing to keep pace with rising holiday sales.
``Zune did OK in the first week and OK in the second week, but they haven't
had any major impact on Apple,'' Baker said. Apple held 75 percent of the
U.S. media player market for the nine months through September, according to
NPD. "
This was just in December of last year....it has held steady at 2.9% since
then.

Are you really stupid enough to make such a risible assertion?
Of course, now Zune would have nearly 100% of the 30 GB hard disk MP3
players, since the smallest hard disk based iPod is 80 GB.

For one data point in December 2006.
According to your standards, unless you can show up-to-date figures,
there have been no Zune sales since then.
Are you really stupid enough to believe that a Halo-branded Zune is
going to help Zune sales much?
How do they run on your Mac? LOL
I can go right from Autocad to Crysis DX10. Can you do that on your Mac
that cost 10X as much?

Just fine, but I prefer to run them on my high-end gaming PC.

I'll tell you if I ever get a Mac that cost 10X as much.

You have that backwards. It's stupid to think Halo 3 branding won't sell
more Zunes.
Maybe someday you'll finally get tired of going through your life
ass-backwards.
We all look forward to your references showing the spike in Zune sales
because of it...

Interesting...seeing that none of the new Zunes are "Halo branded". So are
people going to buy old Zunes just because of the Halo edition? Even if
every single XBox 360 owner bought a Zune --which isn't going to happen--
that's only 11.6 million sales. However the Zune isn't even for sale
outside of the US.

It is simply stunning that anyone thinks that is an advantage to the
buyer -- and more so that he also thinks it is necessary for competing
devices to have the same non-feature just because the first company
does.
Let me ask, Edwin -- where is the (red) Zune?
Does Microsoft have a charity agenda like Apple?
Not Gates, who uses philanthropy like a publicity bludgeon, but
Microsoft and their customers.
> Just came across this thread. Is someone really saying there is
> something special about a zune loaded with halo adverts?
Yeah -- and even more, he implies that offering it is such a big
advantage to buyers that Apple needs to offer the same thing. Not just
a similar promotional gimmick, but specifically a Halo 3 promotion.
And he's trying to imply that it really is a better thing, and claiming
he will buy them. He even said he'd buy many of them. (Apparently,
specifically because someone put a Halo sticker and image on them.)
This is a guy who insists people saying positive things about Macs are
idiots with no life and no logic or reason.
How has that proven so far, Edwin?
How is that prediction coming along, MuahMan?
I don't think sales of Halo edition Zunes helped the iPod or Apple at all.
Perhaps you feel differently for some bizarre reason.
