Hi Don! Thanks! Yes, actually there are two M68K projects underway
at the N8VEM home brew computer project.
First is the mini-M68K which is an ECB bus board. It can use the ECB
bus and peripherals for expansion. It is small, inexpensive and
hobbyist friendly.
Second is the the S-100 68K CPU board currently under development. It
is in its third prototype phase and nearing a "final" configuration.
Being IEEE-696/S-100 this is a more complex board but like all the
S100computers.com and N8VEM S-100 boards fully supports the IEEE-696
standard for multiple CPU bus masters, etc. Another builder is making
an MMU board for it with the intent of running a *BSD/Linux type
operating system -- full blown 32 bit with memory management, etc.
The S100computers.com and N8VEM S-100 project has produced a
completely free and open S-100/IEEE-696 system from backplane, CPU
boards, RAM, IO, mass storage, etc. Builders can choose from Z80,
8086, and now 6502 CPUs and will soon have a M68K option. The whole
system is designed for builders to assemble themselves from the PCBs
using components they source themselves.
Hobbyist home brew computing is alive and well! Feel free to join up
in the fun! Thanks and have a nice day!
