Dear all,

Do any of you know if the MC6809P still is being produced by anyone?

Regards
Flemming

Motorola ceased formal production in 1989. They made warranty runs up
to 1999. There is a repository and foundry that has obsolete mask sets
for several semiconductor manufacturers. Off hand I can't remember who
it is and what kind of minimum order is needed.

Hi James,

Thank you for your answer.

I have been told that an OEM factory was producing this IC and had a very
hard time believing it. I see now that it is possible that an OEM factory is
producing them.

As I said before Several companies have sold rights to their mask sets
for obsolete ICs to Rochester. They will, for a certain minimum
quantity, make any obsolescent IC for warranty repairs and product
maintainace.

Hi James,

Thanks for this information.

I have been looking at the website of Rochester Electronics and Lansdale
Semiconductor, but neither of them seems to have the MC6809P available. I
have though not contacted them yet.

It seems that you have some experience in this field. Do you know of any
other companies, who does the same as Rochester and Lansdale?

Do you have any experience in how large series usually is needed to start
the production, without raising the prices to the extreme?

Regards
Flemming

There seems to be plenty in China. I just know the link, not any
details.

Hmm... that's odd when I back in 96 they where still taking orders, but that
was for the MC68B09EP, though at the time they took a minimum of 100, I
coundn't afford it at that time.

Though the minimum order $300 USD, it will take a while to scrap up that
kind of money:)

Motorola did annouce the cancellation of the MC6809 series back in
1990 time frame. Motorola maintains production for warranty and repair
for up to ten years after cancellation. I have MC68B09EP with date
codes of 9946 which is about the last production run. IF the MC6809
was still being made on 4 inch wafers then production would have
stopped in late 99 early 2000 as I beleive that Motorola sold its last
4 inch wafer fab then.
