CMOS battery

How long should the CMOS battery (the [usually] coin shaped battery
[usually] mounted on the mb) last? I am finding that my Toshiba
Sattelite laptop loses the clock and CMOS settings if it is powered down
and unplugged more than a few weeks. Battery replacement time?

I am considering Lenovo Z400 as one of my purchase choices and I wonder if anybody here some use experience with it and could share it. This model is sold with several different Intel I7 processors, the latest among them being the I7-3632QM quad mobile core. 2,5" hdd laptop & Linux

I'm looking for a 2,5" sata hdd, for my laptop, and use it with linux distro.
I think to buy a standard device (not a ssd) for a size of 500GB.
I would simply buy a brand-model that hasn't problem with linux.
Does anyone suggest me a name?
I'm worried (after some online search to retrieve info and opinions on models that i've seen on sale ḿbranded wd,hitachi..) about: 1) some "bug" in many hdd's firmwares for about the power saving function (sympotms of continuosly sound-clicking cused by continuously parking/reactive of the heads) 2)Others less worried issues as "alignment partition"... more »

If you hate Windows 8 in your new notebook...and you use a "loader" to downgrade to 7, are you using proper judgement? You have paid for Windows (OEM)...what's your take/opinion?

HP DV3t fan goes beserk

My dv3t has a weird fan issue. When I tilt the PC or move it suddenly the fan comes on like gangbusters. Doesn't sound like bad bearings, just running really, really, really fast. I can stop it by hitting the top of the PC sometimes or by blowing into the exhaust vent, especially with compressed air. I've got an estimate to take apart to clean the PC for $75.... more »

Are DELL laptops still reliable?

Over the years my family members and I used different DELL laptops. Overall they proved to be pretty reliable (though obviously not without problems).
With all the turmoil the company is apparently going through, is quality of their products started suffering?
Is it no longer a good idea to buy DELL? Or is the answer (as usual) "depends"?... more »
