"The journey of a thousand miles beings with one step."

If there is a twelve-step program for Hardware-aholics, I'm sure
that the first step involves admitting that one has a problem. Not
that that would apply to _me_, you understand, but I've been told by
people close to me that I show some of the early symptoms. <grin!>

From my point of view, of course, it's a case of admitting that time
and energy constraints (energy in particular) make it unlikely that
I will get my collection of PS/2 (M50s & M60s and an M95, assorted
drives, adapters, and a few bits of RAM)) fired up or OS/2 running
on them. Only unlikely, mind you, perhaps even extremely unlikely
but not actually im_possible_. <grin!>

Given the choice between taking the stuff down to the local recycler
and finding it a home with someone who might get some use out of it,
I much prefer the latter. Are there there any collectors out there
within driving distance of Richmond, Virginia who would be
interested in taking on a station-wagon-load of PS/2 stuff?

I doubt if the Ethernet and Serial adapters are all that Rare and
Exotic, but how about if I mention the M95/XP486 and three (four?)
Audio Capture & Playback Adapter/A adapters-in-shrink-wrap?

And M50/M60 cases make really solid and stable desk foundations;
just add solid-wood door and use. <grin!>

If there is no interest, I'll probably start recycling stuff in a
month or two. It's not an absolute cutoff -- I'd wait another month
for someone with a real interest -- but it will have to go (sob!)
at some point.

Anyone need _one_ multiplexor? A DEC micro sans case?

That tells me your in USA even before reading further :-)

Australian version is :-

"The journey of a thousand miles begins with a broken fan belt and a
leaky tire."

Just be glad your not a Zuikoholic [Collector of Olympus OM Cameras

Hmm, this could be an expensive addiction. My light capture system is an
OM-2 with three Zuiko lenses, 50mm/1.4, 35mm/2.8 and 75-150mm/4. A most
useful item in the pack was a book from a professional German photographer
endorsing Olympus products, there you find a lot of info and details about
the whole range of the Zuiko lenses.

However, I am also fond of the three Zenit cameras with Helios lenses from
the 1970s. These lenses are not valued at all here, the last one I got for
some 8 Euros or so. People cannot identify the production year which is
embedded in the serial number.

You cannot of course compare Olympus and Zenit, but the latter has its uses
too. I personally feel and understand the Helios lenses better, I have had
the OM-2 set for not that long and need more routine.

Probably enough to make you addicted for life ...;)

And on the east coast, to boot. But for someone living in a country
where 1,000 square miles is considered a "starter ranch", that's
just a weekend criuse away, right? <grin!>

Ah. I had always wondered where my '65 VW bug wound up.

Impressive. It does strike me that the _real_ money isn't in staking
out domain names on the Internet, it's in registering names for
yet-to-be-discovered psychologican conditions. <grin!>

Dan,

Sure. "More about the DEC micro".

(Sorry -- I just couldn't resist a straight line like that. <grin!>)

More seriously, it's a rack-mount Digital microPDP-11 (11E23-FE)
which may need to have a few spiders vacuumed out of it. It is
_not_ light; I'd guess at least 30 lbs.

I also did a more careful check on the PS/2s and found I was wrong:
I have _no_ PS/2 M50s, and most of the M30s are gone (I know how much
that disappoints everyone <grin!>). What I have, in addition to the
adapters and mounting hardware, are:

8560 PS/2 M60 (286 processor)
8580 PS/2 M80 (with a 386 Processor! <grin!>)
8580-111 PS/2 M80
8580-111 PS/2 M80
8595 PS/2 M95/XP486 (_not_ MSWinXP <grin!>)

I also have a CD-less P/2 M57slc (386slc), and what apears to be a
PS/2 M30 (8086, IIRC).

I even found a 23kg. IBM 2456 SCSI-interface Image Scanner and a
Compaq Portable II. Gack!

Hope this helps...

Absolutely amazing, a very nice collection, and it looks quite complete too.
All I can say is, happy clicking...

Just let them complement each other, but I do think cameras are worse.

You too... all that shiny "new" stuff does almost make me drool, luckily it is
Olympus.

If Nikon, things could be worse. Last time I checked, the pile of
beat-up, scuffed and ultra reliable Nikons filled five huge cases. Yes, they
all are or have been working for a living and they have some choice company,
things that have brands like Metz, Novoflex, Fuji, Kodak and Kiev. The
Hasselblad knock-off, that is.

Still missing some Speed Graphics, I want to go
Weegee.
