If you part it out for spares, I'd be interested, shipping the whole system
would probably be too expensive. Thanks though.

Was that you that me an offer on another RS/6000 a fair few years
ago ?

I suspect I will end up gutting this one so will let you know.

Since there were only a very few of us Brits on the NG in recent years, it
would likely have been either myself, Pete Backhouse or Bob Eager.

Thanks for that Ian, I'm open to the possibilities. I'll keep a weather eye
open.

This time I am just around the corner!
But I would need some convincing exactly what I would do with a RS6K.
Perhaps I could convert it, and a PC325 I have, into robots, and have them
battle to the death?
If no one else bites, I could have a play for a while, then part it out to
Tim....

If you're really "just around the corner" (I am fully aware just how huge
the distances can be in OZ), then by all means have a play with it, as I
wouldn't want to be partially responsible for the disassembling of an
excellent little workhorse. I have more than is good for me, to play with
already, although I could use another decent Graphics adapter for my
7013-J50, which is currently operated via an IBM 3153 terminal. You could
have a play with Linux on it (see the examples in CT's thread on it) and use
it as a combination Bridge/Router/DNS/Security/Logging Server etc. etc. It
all depends upon your current environment in terms of a LAN-based setup with
Internet access gateway.

The F50 is a PC Server 500/520/720 case in beige but with a cooler
bezel. You can deck it out with more hard disks than you'll know what
to do with. It will run up to AIX 5.3 which you can load with
packages from http://www.perzl.org/aix/ and get essentially a
productive *NIX client or server. Uli Link has Firefox builds that
allow for web browsing. You can also run Linux on it and do any of
the above, but be prepared for a bit of install work -- not as easy as
a PC.

Kevin

Which you won't get from the 7025-F50, since it uses a PCI bus graphics
adapter, and the J50 wants Microchannel. A GXT150M (Type 1-E) would go
nicely in the 7013-J50, and I could supply you with one, but the
cross-pond shipping is expensive. I suspect that you could find a local
source without too much trouble, especially if you aren't too fussy
about which Microchannel GXTnnnn adapter you get in the end.

I realised after I'd made the post, but was wondering who'd "spot the
deliberate error" first. I believe that I already have a Type 1-E here,
silly me. :-) Thanks guys and Rick (not that I'm accusing you of being a
girl, Rick).
