Doom 4 Announced
by Nick Breckon May 07, 2008 11:34am CST tags: Doom 4, id Software
id Software today announced that it has begun production on Doom 4,
and is now in the process of expanding its internal team of developers
to work on the shooter sequel.

"Doom is part of the id Software DNA and demands the greatest talent
and brightest minds in the industry to bring the next installment of
our flagship franchise to Earth," said id Software CEO Todd
Hollenshead in a release.

"It's critical for id Software to have the best creative minds in-
house to develop games that meet the standards synonymous with our
titles."

The company is currently accepting applications to fill job openings
covering roles such as producer, lead designer, and lead animator,
among others.

The job listings page indicates that applicable platforms for the
positions are PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Though no further
details on the game were released, the studio will likely make use of
its new id Tech 5 engine for the project.

id Software lead artist Kevin Cloud recently told Shacknews that one
of the strengths of the company's new engine is its cross-platform
performance.

"You don't even have to worry about how it's going to look on PS3 or
360. Right now we've got it running cross-platform running 60 hertz,
and it looks really good," said Cloud. "In terms of what artists are
available to achieve--it's something you have to see for yourself. I
can say this, but you still won't get it until you see it."

id will be hosting the 13th annual QuakeCon convention on July 31.

Wow....anyone remember back in the days when we were
running what were still called "IBM PC compatibles" by
firelight, programming in ones and zeroes on clay tablets,
and "Doom" was a piece of shareware that everyone thought
was just AMAZING?

Subject: Re: DOOM 4 Announced
(Story for Doom4 below :))

Maybe they should do a Commander Keen in 3D. LOL.

Just kidding LOL.

First finish Doom 4... then maybe do Keen 3D for fun lol.

Like Battlefield Heroe's or so ;)

Announcement is on the id software website too.

I wonder what does this mean for their "rave" game ?

Is it still "on" or is it "dropped" ? ;)

Anyway let's get serious for Doom 4:

I expect nothing less than:

1. Awesome/mindblowing sound quality. Creative labs should help out a bit.

2. Awesome/graphics. I am sure they ll manage to cook something up LOL.

3. Awesome/animations. Check.

4. Awesome special effect ? Hmmmmm.

5. Nice story ? Hmmmm. I hope they continue where doom 3 left off... with
the marine being transported back via spaceship, and then ofcourse something
goes horribly wrong and he ends up fighting his way through space :)

Maybe he ends up fighting in all kinds of spaceships which have been
infected by the hell creatures ? Some spaceships have teleporters to
teleport from one ship to the other. Some spaceships don't and he'll have to
find other ways of getting there... maybe jumping through space in a
spacesuit from ship to ship.

Then he finds out it was all planned by betruger... trying to smuggle
creatures back to earth to infect earth as well.

The marine much stop them before the spaceships reach earth ! :)

Meanwhile betruger is cooking up one of his new evil plans and devices...
maybe virus.. to infect earth.. or maybe special creatures with special
powers and special weapons. Yeah betruger or whatever has learned from his
mistakes in the passed. His creatures were not powerfull enough to face even
a single marine ;)

This time betruger has special aliens... which fire everything you could
possibly think of... betruger goes big this time... he wants all bases
covered.

Creatures which shoot ice... Sub-zero creatures... if you touch them you
die... maybe they even half transparent because of all the ice in them. Fire
creatures... fire fire at you... you burn... you scream LOL... but then fire
goes out again... not powerfull enough lol...

Smoke creatures... which lay down layers of smoke... so you can't see
shit... and then they COME AT YOUUUUUUUUUUU from the MYST.

Sometimes screaming... sometimes not. Sometimes sneaking up onto you from
behind... and then they will breath down your neck and grab you in the neck
and bite you in the neck... and you ll be scared shitless. Jumping out of
seat from suprises like that.

Void creatures... which have the stars of space embedded in them... The mere
fabric of space has been interwoven with the creatures.... and now the
creatures can shoot blackholes at you... you will fall down into portals ?

Slime creatures... which will spue green slime everywhere... so you get
stuck... and can't move that fast... you can't run away anymore... you will
have to fight with your guns mostly. just pray pray pray pray that you have
enough ammo during sticky situations ;) :)

And ofcourse the spider creatures... except this time... webs everywhere...
which get into your face... and stick real bad too...

You ll have to struggle through the fricking spider webs... But you'll have
your thrusty flame thrower... to burn away the mess.

And tourch some niiccceeeeeeee screaming burning spiders too ;) Little
creatures in the webs... baby spiders... tiny but hundreds of them...

Little yellow buggers... crawling everywhere... they mostly harmless... but
they are still there... if you dont kill them... they will come back later
on.... hundreds of them... they ll have growed... they are mutated... they
have a growth rate... a hellish growth rate... they grow faster.... when
some other creature is nearby.... the other creature nurses the spiders...
so they grow faster...

The marine must kill the nursing creature fast... before it can make the
little spiders grow.

Mean nasty androids... Betruger managed to capture some robots... some
fighting robots which were on the spaceships.

He modified them... they got nasty... now your fighting humanities own
robots...

Like the little crawling robot with the funny sounds... he now a little bit
bigger... bad-der... and black thing over him... with mean red eyes and he
shoots mean red plasma fire/bullits at you... which wistle passed or into
your head... if you dont step aside ;) :)

One of the spaceships of the marines... managed to capture aliens from some
other planet... it too was in the convoy....

Betruger naturally and ofcourse was very intrigued... by the capturement and
containment of these aliens from another world/planet... he immediatly so
the potential to infect these aliens and to mutate them into even more
powerfull dangerous aliens.

These could be the classic gray alien ... but then even meaner... and more
bad and ofcourse little bit black to... maybe even dark greenish.

And the alien from aliens... even more hunger for flesh... his transparent
watery slime... leaves long trails on the floor... he's so hungry... he
drewling all over the place.

These creatures are rest less... the most have flesh... and they will have
it now ! They will search the ships for flesh... and they will eat anything
they find.

The marine could run into these creatures at any given time... and then it's
up to him what to do.... run away ? hide ? fight ? lurk ? woeh... exciting.

Finally earth could send additional space ships... maybe even a space ship
war... blasting holes into the existing spaceships... creating total
destruction... nice levels to play in...

Then the marine plus the new reinforcements could fight together.... and
kick ass all over the ships.

Some die here and there... some have to go elsewhere... some survive... and
fight on... finally the marine finds betruger... in his latest form... some
magnificant spacecreature... with tenticles... throwing things at the
marine... trying to bite him too.. with his long mouth...

But the marine has a little trick up his sleeve... he has a nice granade
launcher... and launches some deadly granades inside the creature's mouth...
and booooom... splatter the creatures explodes into pieces.

Then suddenly a poisnous gas is released... which cannot be escaped... and
the marine dies.... but he goes to heaven... and there he meets god... and
god says to him... no marine ! you are to young to die ! you must go back
and destroy the evil !

Then the marine wakes up again... what was that ? Was it a dream ? was it
real ? Who knows ?

The marine is confused... and a little dazzy... something saved him from
death... but he doesn't know what... he has a special cap on his mouth that
allows him to breath through the poisnous gas... how did he get that mouth
piece ?

Now he fights on... cleaning up those creatures that still existed... but he
wonders...

Finally the marine learns that there are other good creatures in space...
very powerfull creatures... they are observing earth from across the
universe.... they see all... they known all... they decided to interfene for
the good of earth... they do not want to see it destroyed... that was what
the marine saw in his vision.

A vision of greatness across the galaxy.

End of story ;) :)

Bye,
  Skybuck.

I do.  You got the entire first level for free.  If you weren't hooked by
the time you got through you'd never be.
