DVD burners have stopped writing
I had a pair of DVD burners, both of which have stopped writing (they can still read them though). They were IDE drives, and they were connected to each other on the same cable. One of them had started to spew out random errors in the event log, but the other one was fine. Then all of a sudden I noticed that the random errors had stopped. This... more »

New Toshiba laptop with Windows 7
I bought a new Toshiba Satellite laptop with Windows 7 installed. The moment I opened it up, it went into its automatic setup procedure and installed Windows 7 from a recovery partition. There weren't many options available during setup (choose 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7, choose your language, and that's about it). It ended up creating the... more »

HDD capacity stagnation
Capacity seems to be progressing very slowly. We were stuck at 2TB for the longest time (a lot longer than we were stuck at 528MB) but when the gates opened we got 3TB, and not 8TB. Is there another obstacle? -- Reply in group, but if emailing add one more zero, and remove the last word.... more »

Partition Recovery
I have a 2 TB Seagate Sata drive (Model # ST320005N4A1AS-RK Barracuda). I am using it on a PC using Windows XP, SP3. Recently, I was using a new piece of software to backup a 20 GB drive to it. I mistakenly ‘copied the partition’ and the result was that it wrote over the existing partition on the 2 TB drive instead and created a new one. I... more »

ASrock SATA Drivers
... ... ... Yeah, XP does vary with that detail. ... You dont normally need anything special with the later XP SPs, just carry on regardless and the install just works fine. Its generally only the older motherboards that needed anything special. ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... The short story is that it should install fine without any special drivers.... more »

Hitachi Drive Fitness Test (DFT) does not detect HDD
I have a Toshiba Satellite A660 PSAW3C-047017 with a Toshiba MK6465GSX HDD. After experience some consecutive boot failures, I was advised on Toshiba forums to use Hitachi's Drive Fitness Test (DFT). I burned the ISO file to a CD and booted from it (I need to press F12 for boot options and select the optical drive), which successfully causes to... more »

Automatic Boot Disk redirector?
Whenever an external drive is plugged into my PC, the BIOS gets all confused and it rearranges the boot order of the drives. You then have to go into the BIOS setup and rearrange them back, which is a temporary solution until you don't connect external drive and you have to do it all over again. Or use the BIOS's boot device chooser which is even more... more »
