Some, if not all, Pentiums have a built in CPU test. Perhaps it runs
that.

It is more of a relic from times when CPUs were simple
and could be meaningfully tested in a few seconds. I
don't think that can be done today.
No problem.
Arno

Hmm. Since the code does not to anything but display a
message, what would be the difference?
Very, very likely. The typical situation is
a single-bit fault.
Arno

Having looked through the source of a couple of BIOSen
and noticed the CPU testing that they do, I wonder
about the probability of a damaged CPU working well
enough to actually execute that code but not pass the
tests.
I also wonder about the EPROM checksum testing - if an
EPROM develops an error how probable is it that the

You need the same or higher voltage and the same (not higher!)
capacity. Here voltage is 6.3V and capacity is likely 1500 uF
(micro Farad). Higher voltage capacitors typically have
better properties.
In addition these very likely need to be "low ESR" capacitors.
This is not really a cost factor, shipping will likely cost

If i was to replace the busted capacitors on my video card, would I
need to replace them with units that have the same specs? I have 4
busted capacitors, they are labeled "6.3V 1500".
