Computer won't start up - help?

I have a computer that's acting up. When I plug it in, the power supply fan and the main vent fan both start and two lights next to where the network cable plugs in light up. After about a second, the two lights go off and the fans power down. After a couple of seconds, the fans come to a stop and then the whole cycle repeats. It continues... more »

	Fix for P4 boards?
	I've acquired ("No, don't throw 'em away. Maybe I can fix 'em") three P4 system boards that all exhibit the same symptoms: with a known-good CPU and known-good PSU the fans run but the CPU stays cold. POST beep absent in working IBM Intellistation M Pro 6230-41U

For some time I've wondered why my IBM Intellistation M Pro (type 6230-41U) doesn't POST beep when turned on. It works fine but no beep. Is there some way to make the internal speaker louder in case it's now down to a silent setting? Did IBM drop the POST beep if the computer is working OK? [My OS is Linux.
