Congrats to the winners, they will get a mail / forum post from me
with the unique badge designed by Daniel Lamb.
As to the separate (and secret) vote by developers : I only got 3
responses, so nothing valid can be determined from their vote.
I've now encrypted the Excel file and have send it to Mr. Beretta - as
soon as he acknowledges receiving it I'll ask Mr. Giftzwerg to
announce the lucky number so Mr. Beretta can announce who won a free
game from AGEod.

Let's do this fairly. Deck of cards. Withdraw two full suits (hearts,
spades) for 26 cards. Add joker for 27th card. Hearts are ace-king, 1-
13, spades are ace-king, 14-26. Joker is 27.
Shuffle thoroughly. Cut deck. Take top card.
Nine of hearts is turned.
Number is Nine (9).

War Plan Pacific? you're kidding me!
Gifty's review was very good and while I haven't studied it thoroughly
there something that makes this uninteresting. I like beer and I like
pretzels. However There's still something historical missing. Japs
take one of the lifelines, say Fiji, I take it back,he takes it
back..and so on. I can't guard them all. So I feel like I'm just
playing a merry go round. Why I bought that SAS is beyond me.
In my fix to play a PTO game I went back to the game I started with
the new SC PTO. I think its by far the best and there is at least
some immersion of being in the PTO. The Jap AI puts enough pressure on
China and India to keep me at bay. yeah the naval battles the AI might
come out a little to aggressive but its still fun. Late 1943 and I
just took the Marshalls on normal setting. I expect the rest to be
easy going since I've knocked out a lot of his CVs. I can only
imagine playing a human Jap who would husband those CVs for a big
strike to hurt me.
By far the 2008 winner in my book:)

There are flaws in WPP. Absolutely. Some of them were obvious on first
play. Some of them only revealed themselves after long-term play.
But I think there are two basic reasons gamers reacted so positively to
WPP:
(1) The flaws seem so easily rectified. Tone down and tweak the AI,
allow a more flexible response to enemy moves, change values to make
some moves silly (for example, if the Home Islands had a *realistic*
value for available airpower - say, *1,000* planes - perhaps the AI
wouldn't be so eager to blaze away turn-after-turn...).
(2) There's nothing like it. The Pacific War is a compelling subject
for wargamers that's been handled at the PC level chiefly by
monsteritis-infected titles like WAR IN THE PACIFIC and WAR PLAN ORANGE.
I *liked* WPO, but I still like WPP - flaws and all - better. It's the
*flavor* of the campaigns; perilous landings, tenuous supply lines,
grimly hanging onto precarious gains.
Fun.
> Why I bought that SAS is beyond me.
I'll let this title get its teething problems behind it, and they'll get
my money.

Feh. Nazi DRM and a land-game-square-peg pounded into a round hole.

2. This hex hangup just baffles me. I have them turned off and don't
even notice it. without stacking you want that diaganol attack lane
too. its one noce big ocean:) and I really get a good PTO feel...tho
I know SC series is not hard core.
Infact for the other SC series someone did a hex overlay but I saw no
reason for it as you dont need the overlay.

Of course it does. And you'll never convince most of us of any other
position. So give up. Nazi DRM is an absolute deal-breaker for a very
large and significant part of gamers.

Nope. This argument is as stupid as asserting that a car which doesn't
come with a warranty must be evaluated on its merits alone, without
regard to the fact that anything that goes wrong in the first month will
cost the idiot who buys it $3,000.

Ah. So you have "no problem" with things that are a "pain in the ass to
be sure."
Me, I hate shit that's a pain in the ass.

Huh? What?
In context of the unlikely event that I am "#9", I'll be off the grid
for a couple weeks.
On behalf of Matrix Games and Koios Works and 2by3 Games, thanks
everyone for your support and consideration.
Personally, I'm honored that Panzer Command: Kharkov was so well
received. I was heavily involved on that release and missed quite a
lot of nights and weekends with family making sure that it would be as
good as we could make it. We're working on improving it a lot more
for the next game in the series. Gary Grigsby's War Between the
States is a game that captured my interest as well and kept me up for
many late nights playing PBEM and against the AI to try different
strategies of winning the Civil War. I think it's one of Gary's best
wargames ever, personally. So thanks again and we'll try not to
disappoint in 2009!
Regards,
- Erik
That is so very true: A lot of the applause goes to you for your
dedicated support. So much in fact, that back when you disappeared
from the scene late autumn (to firefight something else, I guess),
there was a big void... I think Koios could do more than just deliver
some code to Matrix at regular intervals.
As I have said before: PCK is a work in progress. If you want it to
become what it has the possibillity to be, you have to nurture it. And
keep adding stuff
Any news of the "before christmas" patch? Waiting for Stridor?

Well it's not me this time as I didn't actually cast a vote this year
so I can't win the game I already own again. ;-)

DRM. btw..pain in the ass was wrong choice of words. Its actually the
easiest for me to play. Matrix is not bad with its SN as once put in I
can just play except when putting new patch in. The worst for me was
having the CD since I buy so many games, throw the boxes and manuals
away and if I want to play gotta hunt through a zillion CDs.
Your example of a car warr is ludicrous. A $20,000 vehicles that is a
necessity vs a $40 entertainment game..you gotta be kidding me. Thats
just stooopid. Priorities man!
What didn't you understand on the hexes? I said theres a mod overlay
of real hexes.
Sorry late getting back to you..was to engrossed in finishing SC
PTO ;-)

OK, suppose someone offered you a $40 car that had no warranty, and
someone else offered you a $40 car that had a 100,000 mile full warranty
with roadside assistance.
Would you evaluate the two cars *strictly* on the basis of their
mechanical or performance values? Or would you stir into your
calculations the fact that one company would leave your wife stranded in
a bad part of town at midnight, while the other one afforded her a
tremendous additional margin of safety?
BTW, it's call an "analogy," and it's by no means invalidated by a
question of degree.
But the point is..and this is why I hate analogies..is one is real
life (car) and the other entertainment (game...or fantasy do I dare
say). Analogies are great on point to point but are often apples and
oranges because they use different applications.
If your favorite game that you've always wanted I just can see why you
would deprive yourself over a DRM..
btw..I am somewhat ignorant on DRM..what are the pitfalls.?
> What didn't you understand on the hexes? I said theres a mod overlay

Wait a sec.
Mathematically impossible. In the SC2 series each location is adjacent
to 8 other locations for move and attack purposes. Hexes were 6-sided
last time I looked. Either the game engine can switch its basics on
the fly or the hex overlay is a fake and you're really still playing
on an orthogonal projection with 8 directions to move/fight in.
Greetz,
Eddy Sterckx
> I buy so many games, throw the boxes and manuals

Well, THERE'S y'r problem!
That's just plain stupid.
No you still attacked from 8 sides...the hexes were for looks to make
you feel better:) But seriously..the 8 side attack works perfect for
this game...each game may differer.. especially with naval,
and in a way I like those 2 extra sides (the diagonal) that kinda acts
like a reserve. For instance I'll leave a strong unit at the
diagonal..with front line units occupying the others. The enemy is
kinda force to hit those first (thou he can attack the diagonal) then
in my trun..pow with harly any loss if you have a nive 14 attk armor
there:)
whats stupid..buying games or throwing the boxes away?
I dont have the space for boxes. I used to keep some manuals till I
realized I never used them so off to the trash they went.
<zoink>
> But seriously..the 8 side attack works perfect for

Pure taste & feel thing here, so I won’t dispute it beyond saying that
it “doesn’t feel right” to me. I was extremely happy with Strategic
Command 1, though it had some serious warts, so I did give the demo of
SC2 a serious try just to see if I could get over this mental block. I
discovered I can’t, simple as that.
Greetz,
Eddy Sterckx
I never liked the looks of the squares (I didn't mind the attack
avenues) so I used that hex mod and it looked good. Then I realized
you dont even need an overlay and it looks even better.
One thing I like about the new PTO is CVs can now be put on CAP,Naval
Strike, or Mixed. Naturally putting it all on naval strike is quite
a punch:) Against the AI not a big deal but against a human whether
to keep how much on CAP I can see being a huge deal.
After one game took Tojo by late 44 on normal setting. Because of the
pacific and different areas..this might be quite the chess match ala
the old 3R vs human players.
