A bit of a broad question but in this game's particular case I mean
that it has some traditional Eurogame elements that might off-putting
to die-hard grognards - it's card driven and has little wooden cubes
representing the armies
A video of the game is up here :

Others may violently disagree but to someone like me who has a foot in
both worlds - Wargame and Eurogame - it's fascinating to see how
interesting concepts of one genre pop up in the other. Some Eurogames,
tradionally all about pure strategy, now have elements like player
elimination, direct conflict and even dice. Throw in some Ameritrash
elements like lots of dudes on a map and lots of dice rolling and tons
of flavour and it becomes very interesting.
Lots of pure-bred in-genre games are still getting produced but for me
some of the most interesting games are the hybrids. Some may say those
hybrid games, like Shogun or Wallenstein or Risk Legacy or A Game of
Thrones are mongrels, but I like them very much.
