This game starts to look more appealing every time I spend some time

that is the initial few months of the 41 Campaign. We'll get as many
scenarios as we have time for and data people to build them. Once the
basic campaigns are solidified, it is much easier to put together
smaller scenarios that use these as starting points. I expect that
we'll be able to recruit some more scenario builders, if not before
release, after release, and will be able to get more scenarios
eventually released as official scenarios. "

The game just became an auto-buy for me, especially with the "mini
1941 campaign" - this is just ideal for testing out pet theories
regarding the German's initial push and to learn the system without
having to jump right into the big campaign.

How many times have I heard this line, though?
Yeah. Whew. Let's buy the game (now!) and await the sure-to-be-
forthcoming flood tide of new scenarios and user-built scenarios (real
soon now!).
POA2, anyone?
Folks, here's Giftzwerg's Iron Law Of Scenario Availability: "Evaluate
the scenario content of a new release *ONLY* on what comes in the box on
Day 1. Anything else is just pie-in-the-sky."

I'll believe it when I see it. These guys don't exactly have a stellar
track record when it comes to flooding their games with small, intimate
scenarios.
[And I'm still digesting the idea that a "small" scenario is
*Barbarossa* or *Uranus*. This seems like the US Navy telling a
prospective captain, "Now, we're starting you off with something small -
a BALTIMORE class heavy cruiser."]

take the covers off and invest a little more time and effort to
thoroughly examine how these models work? Hopefully this will include
analytical critiques from a wider cast of characters than the self
serving cabal whose mendacity and ham-handed attempts to marginalize
dissent were recently exposed."

Yeah, I know, but screenshots already show that they've got Uranus and
Typhoon ready and notice how they're not relying on gamers to provide
additional scenarios but that they themselves will put out additional
scenarios.

That's true - to be fair they've got a taste (and a public) for these
larg(ish) games so may not see it as an absolute design requirement to
built a game engine capable of running these little intimate
scenarios.

Well, that *is* small if you're being groomed to command the entire
5th Fleet :)

When? See, this is my point; if it's not in the box on the day you buy
it, a vaporous "promise" to come up with smaller scenarios later on
isn't worth the paper it's not-printed on.
If you want the game, and the inclusion of "Barbarossa '41" and
"Uranus" scenarios seals the deal ... well, fine. I'm just not going to
make any purchase decisions around what *might* appear some time after
the product ships.
Isn't this among the current causes of grief and ugly words on the WitP: AE
forums?
It all depends on the internal functionality and structure of the game
if a small scenario (read : smaller map than the campaign map +
limited number of units) can be handled. This also requires a more
generic, not too heavily scripted AI.
From what I read about WitE, this is the case and the game seems to be
designed from the ground up as being small-scenario friendly.
You guys are sceptic based on past performances - and I really kind
blame you for that - but I look at it more on a game by game basis and
so far nothing I read made me go "uh-oh" ... yet :)

Hope springs eternal. As a dev, just throw out some hope and folks will
gobble it up.

Seems almost unnecessary, though; the game is dead-certain to attract
The Monster Russian Front Game crowd. Whether or not it attracts *me*
with some more easily-digestible scenarios is probably a moot point.

It's a Grigsby game. This almost guarantees that what they tell you is
going to be in the game pretty much will be what's in the game. And
this time it even looks like they made a serious effort at designing a
GUI as well.
Ok, I'm slowly becoming a fanboy, sue me :)

When I'm Emperor, I'm going to shake some of these guys up and issue
orders from on high that it can't be business as usual any more.
Grigsby et al is going to be ordered to develop a new wargame system,
with three constraints:
(1) There can be no more than 25 total units in any given scenario.
(2) The map shall be no more than 20 divisions (hexes, squares,
regularly-tessellated octagons...) on a side.
(3) There must be 50 scenarios in the box ... 25 of which must be
*half* as large as in (1) and (2) ... or smaller.
