[Moody music, lights dimming...]

2007 has been a very important year for our contest: thanks to the WGA
strike, we were able to offer a cerimony almost on par, in style and
substance, with the Golden Globes - no small feat! We even had members from
the foreign press voting :o)

As usual, the Wargame of the Year on CSIPGW-H is choosen by a motley bunch
of international wargame players who are passionate both in their hobby and
in the general expression of their world views. The Award is the result of
many man-hours of gaming, open debate in the NG, discussions with the
designers, the publishers and the producers themselves, analysis of what
could be improved, what went wrong and what was learned in the last year of
wargaming and so on. [For example, I learned to save my commentary on HD, so
to be able to recycle it year after year with only minor changes!]

But, once again, the most important thing is that the CSIPGW-H Award is the
most genuine expression of a collective of people who, while not always
agreeing between themselves, always speak their minds and their hearts on
whatever the issue on the table is.

The final results, as already published, are

# 1 - AGEod's American Civil War - 64 points
# 2 - Advanced Tactics - 47 points
# 3 - Carriers at War - 40 points

[However, the final tally can still vary if you live in Florida :o) ]

This year Shrapnel Games honored us voters with a copy of "Air Assault Task
Force", with the "prize winner" being the first to be randomly choosen among
the voters; AGEod has done the same with a copy of "Birth of America 2" (to
be published in 2008), and meanwhile the recepient of the prize can pick a
game from AGEod's current catalogue.

Matrix Games, via Mr. Rutins, then offered a copy of "Advanced Tactics" by
VR Designs and "Carriers at War" by SSG - the games, published by Matrix,
who respectively took the silver and the bronze award. We thank very much
Shrapnel Games, ProSimCo, AGEod, Matrix Games, SSG, VR Designs and their
representatives!

And now, the winners!

The numbers given by Mr. Giftzwerg, in order, before the Excel file
detailing the results was decrypted:

27 (main prizes winner)

17 (second prize winner)

9 (third prize winner)

This means that, for 2007, the lucky ones are:

pifferm (number 27, winning a copy of Air Assault Task Force, a copy of
Birth of America 2 and a game picked from AGEod's current catalogue)

who, ironically, gave his only vote to:

1) Air Assault Task Force!

[This means that, as Shrapnel told us, if Mr. pifferm already has the game
he can pick another title from Shrapnel's current cartalogue]

Eddy Sterkx (number 17, winning Advanced Tactics)

who gave his votes to:

1) Commander, Europe at War
2) AGEod's Napoleon Campaigns
3) Ancient Warfare: Punic Wars

and

Graham Thurlwell (number 9, winning Carriers at War)

who, ironically, gave his only vote to:

1) Carriers at War!

[Since I see that one of the winners got a game that he has already played,
maybe he can to contact one of the other two and, maybe, agree to swap
prizes, so that anyone gets a new game - this is, of course, only a
suggestion]

The Excel file is now available to everyone from Mr. Sterckx to conduct
independent checking.

Heartly congratulations both to the Award winners and to the prize winner by
all the CSIPGW-H newsgroup members. See you all in 2008, and best wishes for
an healthy, productive and fun year!

It's a good suggestion, but I'm not swapping as Advanced Tactics is
the only game in the Top 5 I haven't played yet and it looks like this
is a major oversight on my part. So I'm very glad to win this game.

I didn't paid much attention to it, too, even if I have it. I'll celebrate
the closing of our award by giving it a spin.

Well, if Graham would like to swap CAW with us for a different title
that was in the top 10 here, that's fine with me.

I'm very glad to win this games too!

I'm thinking if I pick AATF (and make a contest at my blog to) or pick
another Shrapnel title.

Thanks! That's very generous of you! I'll get back to you on my choice
of game after I've read up on them.

I'll be taking Mr Rutins up on his generous offer of an alternative
title once I've decided which one I want.
