Just curious if anyone has been able to get this to play on Vista64
and if so, what did you do? Thanks.

I have it on Vista64 and didn't have to do anything special to get it to
run. I set all games to run in admin mode on Vista and never install to the
/program files (x86) folder as that folder can cause issues for games
because it is a protected folder on Vista. I also use Bman mod in UFO:ET.

Thanks for the reply. That's odd. I do exactly the same thing, install
on a different drive, have administrator privileges and have even
tried compatibility modes and nothing works for me... I also like the
Bman mod. Hmmm, will have to try again as you've given me incentive to
try and figure out what's amiss.

Out of curiosity, do yo have the digital download? Maybe that is my
issue if you don't and I do? Just trying to hypothesize here.

Yes, I have the digital download from Matrixgames version. Your issue is
probably hardware related and not the OS. Go to matrixgames forum and ask in
the forum for UFO:ET about your issue. On their site it says it is Vista32
certified only but I have always played it on Vista64.

Thanks for your reply and link. But no need! I must have been in error
the last time I tried to install and run this as the apparent same
thing happened this time. The game installed fine, and I click on the
icon to start it and just have a blank screen. After about 5-10 min.
of that I know I gave up on it and closed out the process. This time I
got a phone call and was away for a good 20 min. I came back to the
same black screen thinking the game had locked up (the clock on my G15
keyboard was also not moving) but my hard drive was still making
sounds and the light was flashing. I decided to wait a little longer
and presto! It finally started. Took just over 30min. for this to
happen... But now it starts instantly like it should. So thanks again
for your replies and motivation!

OK, NP. You installed DX9 to Vista, right? Some games will give you a black
screen on start up if it needs something from DX9 because Microsoft shipped
Vista with missing DX9 files that some games need.

Weird. I know the *installer* takes a good 30mins to launch on Vista
because the .exe is a big 1+GB file and Vista wants to scan the whole
thing and "verify it" before it launches. I've never heard of the
game itself taking that long to launch the first go-round.

Anway, if you have problems, visit http://www.ufo-scene.com/ as that
is the only place with any activity for this game anymore.

I forgot to add, there are *much* more recent versions (up to version
4.0X) of my mod at that site. There's also a Uni-Mod which has taken
my mod and made even more changes...though some people do not like
some of the non-optional changes so proceed with caution.

mod you mean. Want to check it out. Thanks.

Oh yeah, had to for other games but still installed it again for the
hell of it just to be sure I had all that they wanted me to have. Was
quite shocked that it actually took 30+ mins. to run that first time
but now it's just like it was in XP, starts right up after clicking
its' icon. I'm a happy camper again. :)

Still don't see it there in the dloads section. Closest match is "UK ENGLISH

Probably that UAC crap decided to make sure all the files were safe before
you could run it. UAC really slows down a lot of things, especially
installers. I use TweakUAC and put UAC in quiet mode. Basically it does what
Win7 does to UAC but was available long before Win7 was available. I don't
need no steenkin' UAC anyway because I still use limited user account on the
internet even on Vista. It's thanks to noobs that refused to run in limited
user account that UAC was foisted upon us in the first place.

On my work computer I also use TweakUAC but on my gaming rig I have it
turned off so that's not what did it. Still making me scratch my head
in wonder at it but as long as it works fine now that's all I care
about. :)

Started playing again and reliving some fond memories... But one thing
that I've encountered that sucks is every time I have a terror mission
the game crashes... So far I can play other missions including terror
base stuff but no terror missions. Twice with 2 different missions it
has happened. Anyone know what might cause this? Thanks.

That was my guess as well but I like the mod so much that I don't want
to uninstall it. So I guess I'll just keep skipping the terror
missions despite enjoying them. :(

Get the Coasty/Bman 4.07 version. It fixes that bug plus some
others. Only known bugs in 4.07 are an occasional lockup if you are
playing with the XCOM Alien Invasion mod enabled and fighting
Cyberdiscs. Can be avoided by turning off Idle Unit Animations from
the Performance Tweaks tab.

Also some rare reports of a crash when chryssies kill certain units.
Usually avoided by just reloading the autosave from the turn before
and doing something a bit different.

Yea, sure. Unfortunately I have had to go back to the stock game. The 4.07
mod has a game killing bug too. On my 3rd tactical mission there was a point
in the mission where it shows the hidden movement screen for the aliens but
never even starts their move. Would just show the hidden movement screen and
never do anything. Forced the game to close and reloaded my tactical save
from the beginning of the mission and the same thing would happen again
later in the mission. I can't play the game with a bug like that so
uninstalled the game and installed it again in stock config. No issues yet.
