After playing for a while, Section 8's bright flashing lights
become more than annoying. Tribes 2 allows turning off many of the
graphical effects, but apparently Section 8 does not. It is
especially annoying during the free-fall to earth, the screen
jitters as you head downwards, as if that is really necessary.
That is also true for the firing of large weapons. I guess they do
it to stimulate the kids. Should I expect that with all modern
FPSs?

Not really impressed with the strategy content either, compared
with Tribes 2.

Lighting (all forms) seems to be one of those graphic elements that
gets abused too often in games. I guess since lighting is so
important to creating realistic graphics, developers sometimes impress
themselves with the representations of reality they create ("wow I did
good, staring at the sun in this game hurts as much as staring at the
real sun") and lose sight of the more important fun factor.. really
those kinds of flaws should be caught by the lead designer and QA
before the game ships, but sometimes are not. Likewise, bloom and
blurring effects can be quite annoying and hurt the overall
experience.
