Anyone else run into this, and have it not work? My laptop has 1Gig
memory, and the graphics in it is a 200M ATI chipset (ok, it isn't
great, but it is what is built in).
I want the expansions to work on it. Anyone have any idea what may be
up with it?

Tried there, but didn't find anything. I am having it install where
it is. I was playing the game with the expansion disk in, and doing
autoplay. I do an install where the default directory is.

What sort of error message do you get? Or does it just not run?
It is taking forever to load (approaching like 5 minutes). The disk
light lights up off and on, then it spits out an error message, a
crash thing. I am currently trying to run it to generate the
error. Pretty much the multilingual loading screen appears, and then
blammo, the error. It looks like the disk light on my laptop flashes
on and off, to indicate something is happening.
What I don't get is why the expansion pack doesn't work, but the
regular game loads and runs well.
What I get as an error message is AppName: civ4beyondsword.exe AppVer:
3.0.2.94 ModName: ~df394b.tmp ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0007965a
I don't even get to the video of Abe Lincoln and whatever else at this
point.

I think you should count yourself lucky that original Civ 4 works well on
your laptop :) For many people it ran like a dog on much better system. You
could try to search on http://forums.civfanatics.com/ There're various
suggestions and solutions of various problems that help some people.
Hopefully, there's an answer for your problem.
It does appear to be a SafeDisc problem. My laptop is Athlon based,
so that is another thing I need to track down. I will see if cleaning
up the registry fixes it.
It was annoying, because it did load once for me.

I have to say here I am not having ANY fun doing this. Now I have to
update my firmware, Take 2 tells me, and I have to somehow track down
on the Gateway site where.

if it's just a safedisc problem then it should work fine with a no-cd
crack -

New SafeDisc version, media problem...?

Cleaning up the registry? Usually tech support tells you to update your
drive firmware, or your system's SafeDisc driver...

Ahh, there you go. Can't help you on the firmware issue, but you can
find the new SecDrv.sys here:

I had similar problems with Civ4 and used sd4hide.
Have you tried using alcohol 52%? I think they have a free version too.
