I posted abt it here because the space sim ng is dead and the other gaming
ng's nearly so. Go to the following for more info on the new Diaspora, if

The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus.
I downloaded it and tried it, but couldn't get past... well the start
screen? Every time I tried to trade it closed down the program. Couldn't
launch as nothing happened when I clicked on the button.
Very confusing start :p

I know this is a dumb question, but did you buy a ship before you tried to
launch? Your char doesn't start with a basic ship. You have to spend some
portion of your starting 50K DC to buy and equip one. After you have a ship
assigned to your char (there will be a box around the ship, when you view it
in the hangar), you should be able to launch.
As for the trade screen. When you get the basic trade screen which show the
commodities, hit "enter" before trying anything else. Then click on the
right menu choice at the left top. This will bring you to the buy-sell
screen. Type amounts in the space and hit "enter to buy and sell.
Hope this helps.

And once you've had your fill of people being helpful, D*r*k Sm*rt has
released a new -- well, newish -- game via Steam called "All Aspect
Warfare". You can watch him make friends on the Steam forums:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=676
For example, from the "Game Reviews" thread:
Smart: <posts link to game review on some obscure website>
Potential Customer: Wait til we see reviews from IGN, GT, G4TV then we will
decide.
Smart: People who make their buying decisions based on someone else's
personal opinions are patently foolish.
Another Potential Customer: if reviews/professional opinions are foolish
then what is this thread for?
Smart: <quotes above> Where exactly did I even utter those words?
The more things change ...

Bret
Hello Bret you devil you.
I'd completely forgotten I could get here from Google.
I hope you are well and prosperous.
The old gang is spread very far and wide I fear, I've even lost touch
with Xan.
Lemming I spoke to about 2 months ago, he and his fambleh have moved
back to the county of his birth, Cumbria, and seem very happy, bless
'em. I have an email addy for Lem if you so desire it.
The only spacesim type chicanery I'm close to now is the dear old X
series (remember when she was just an upstart?). I'm now bradF430 on
those forums and still haven't managed to play the game. I've now
purchased, installed and entirely failed to play all four iterations,
I'm something of an expert.
Best of luck to those that still haunt this godforsaken place, good
men and true everyone of you.
br d
Br d!
How are things with you? I hope your business is still going strong.
Sorry for the slow response, but I only check this froup about as often as
I get my teeth cleaned. There's just something about the taste of blood in
my mouth that reminds me to check c.s.i.p.g.s-s.
I think X(2? 3?) is the last space sim I played. It was great fun at first,
but I soon reached the dreaded "is that all there is?" plateau. I don't
have as much time for pc games as I used to, and lately I've been reduced
to playing "Mafia Wars" on Facebook. At this point I must recognize that
habitual use of illicit drugs would probably be a positive step for me.
I do miss ol' Lemming. I'll never forget the time I almost stopped by his
house, nor the time he almost chased me off his property while pelting me
with a seasonal medley of root vegetables.
Not much of the old gang seems to be around anymore. I haven't seen
anything at all of Bill Huffman, Xan, Shingen, and too many others to name.
Maybe they were the first against the wall when the revolution came.
In other news: I've become a little bit of a football fan over the last
couple of years (Sounders FC!), so I should probably apologize for the shit
I used to give you about the sport. But that doesn't sound like any fun.
But look: Doc Scorpio and Ceowulf were having this charming discussion
about Diaspora, and here we are just pissing all over it. Seems a little
like old times. <sniff>
See you around the salt mines, old timer.
Bret
Hey guys!
Long time no chat.
I already tired Diaspora.. I think I found it over here:
http://www.spacesimcentral.com/forum.html
Lately.. I've not had too much time for gaming. I've been playing some
Evochron: Alliance.. I might purchase Legends, but I haven't decided.
Derek is as Derek does. Some things never change. He sure loves his
flame-wars!
Br tt! Forgive my appalling quoting, I've quite forgotten the art, I
ell remember when bad quoting was virtually a hanging offence around
here.

Slow! I was under the impression this place attracted only tri-monthly
posts, you were positively previous.

It was for me, but as with X(2? 3?) it reaches a plateau, one you
can't stand up straight on.
I did did recently manage to capture a dead ship and dock at a station
in X3:TC, but It's taken the edge of off the whole ten year epic, I
feel like I've done everything now, I shall probably play it again in
the new millennium.
Facebook I have so far resisted, I think you're only allowed on it at
my age if you're a pervert, and I don't have the stomach for it.

I spoke to him yesterday, it was that which reminded me to check back
here. They have been experiencing massive floods in Cumbria so I
thought I had better check in and see if he was okay. He was, the
floods didn't reach his area. Although his wife did strap two very
large bags of bricks around his neck and tell him that if he had to
venture out into the torrent he must always keep them with him, they
were her most prized possessions apparently.

Shin was Rog wasn't he? If so he has replied in this very thread. Hi
Rog, hope all is well.
Xan - although I haven't spoken to him for a long while - I'm
confident will be doing well, it's the brains you see, apparently it's
good to have them.
Bill I've no idea but I wish him well.

Good man!! We could arrange to meet up and stab each other with
screwdrivers, it's what football fans do here. We're very
sophisticated.

It's a joy Brett, sincerley. I shall pass on this link to Lem and see
if we can get him involved, that'll be 6 or more of the old stagers
together, we'll be breaking our bail conditions.

Br dd! No problemo. As long as you don't start side-posting, it's all good.

Yep, everything is fine in old salt mine.

I was previous. Or will be, I think. It's hard to tell: I won't get around
to actually writing this post until 7 years ago.

I've found that when you're on a plateau and you can't stand up straight,
it's probably Sunday morning.

It probably wouldn't hurt.

Yeah, it can be pain sometimes. Relative strangers are always trying to get
you to join some cause or other, and every 3 days someone hacks your
account and sends messages to your relatives that contain links to computer
viruses that you probably would have gotten around to sending anyway had
you thought of it first.

I read about the flooding. I am very happy to learn that he escaped
unscathed.

Mrs. Lemming sounds like a canny sort.

I didn't realize that Roger was Shin. Which, by the way, explains my utter
failure to heap undeserved abuse on him.

Yeah, me too. Sorry I didn't recognize you in your gmail disguise.

Well ... OK. But if he was so smart why was he hanging out with us?

Technically, I think you can only call it "sophisticated" if you stab each
other with /metric/ screwdrivers.

next time you talk to him.
