Star Trek - Bridge Commander

I'm boldly going on with my pc space sim exploration and have been
playing Bridge Commander.

Well, I like it, I like it a lot, but do you think I can protect that
Biranu station? :)


You arrive and 2 friendly Klingon Birds of Prey are confronting 4
unfriendly Cardassian cruisers, around a Starfleet station with none
other than Jean-Luc Picard aboard.

I've played it to the point where the (unskippable) preamble dialogue is
doing my head in, ("Maybe its a party!") but I can't seem to defeat
those Cardassians.

Any of you chaps able to offer some advice?
