I have finished MM7 without killing, hurting, or casting any
type of spell on any creature, except for the heal spell.
(Of course, sometimes creatures would kill each other...)

I ran a team of 4 dwarves: a monk (to stay awake when everyone
else was knocked out), two clerics (for lots of healing), and
a sorc (needed spells like jump, fly, portal, and especially
invisible). I finished in 1 year, 5 months, 26 days with a
score of 13340 and a fame of 6697. I did all quests except
the knight quests (too much killing), the paladin quests (dragons
are an endangered species), and the blackmail quest from the
guy in Erathia.

To start, we did the red potions, traded one for a hat, and got
the shield and bow from the dragon cave. We didn't have much
gold, so we decided to try to run through the swarm of dragonflies
to get the shell. We somehow made it there and back, but the
flies pursued. We looped around to where the other adventurers
were and kept them healed as they negotiated with the flies.
As some of the flies looped around to where Sally was, we got
the other shell as well.

To get the floor tile we ran in to where the adventurers in the
old temple were. We had expected them to help out, but they
just stood there watching. We still managed to get the tile
and run out, jumping over some rats. Once we left some red
dots started turning yellow. It seems that the critters started
nibbling the adventurers as soon as we weren't around to nibble.

In Harmindale we found our castle full of rats and goblins.
The butler suggested violence.

"Good gracious NO! We wouldn't *think* of harming those
poor creatures!"

So the butler left for an indefinite stay at the inn. And we
had another problem; we were almost out of gold. Now, unscrupulous
adventurers have been known to hunt down various creatures, savagely
attack and slaughter them, and steal their treasure. No wonder
those creatures react so negativly when they see adventurers
aproaching! It's time to break the cycle of violence. We would
earn our gold only by honorable means -- like gambling.

We ran south over the hills, and then made our way to the caves.
Dodging goblins on the outside and trogs on the inside, we grabbed
the Arcomage deck and escaped.

This sort of thing would be easier with invisibility, but to get
that we needed to promote our sorc, but to do that we needed to
gather a bunch of golem parts from many outdoor chests which are
surrounded by tough, misguided monsters. And to do that we needed
to hire a wind master so we could get to the chests and away again.
The best wind masters are elves, which live in the woods to the north,
so to get there we went off the east side of the Harmindale map.

While getting the golem part in Tantalia we decided to try for the
map in the pirate cave. This took several tries. We could get
the map all right, but we kept getting blocked on our way out.
We decided that as soon as we were able to cast fly ourselves,
we would exchange our wind master for a gate master (our other
hireling was a scholar). That way we could always escape.

Once we got our Sorc promoted, we took our student project home
to show off to our guests. Alas, they didn't appreciate it one
bit, but at least our butler agreed to move back in. He didn't
like staying in such a venerable castle, though, and sent us
to the Barrow Downs to find someone to renovate it.

The dwarves were having some trouble with some Trogs living in
their basement, so we agreed to help mediate the dispute.
The first step was to get the two sides talking. We tried to
talk some Dwarven officials into going down to meet with the
trogs, but even the smallest guard was too wide to fit down
the passage leading to the elevator. (And we four dwarves could
march down that passage abreast! Those guards really need to
lose some weight.)

So we invited a trog delegation to come up. They were rather shy
about getting on the elevator while we were there, so we lowered the
elevator, then jumped down (with featherfall going) to bring the
elevator back up. Unfortunatly, the dwarves misinterpreted the trogs'
customary greeting, and even though we cast 'heal' on the dwarves, the
negotiations did not go smoothly. To be a good mediator requires
patience, though, so we went down and got another delegation, then
another. Eventually we ran out of delegations and had to admit defeat.
Our efforts were still appreciated, though, and we recieved credit for
the quest. As for the peasants in the area, well, they really shouldn't
have stuck their noses into the negotiations like that.

Even with 'invisible' getting around could be a challenge. When we
got the lamp from the barrow downs we never managed to slide by the
last monsters in that very narrow passage while remaining invisible.
We had to run that last bit while visible, jump over some rats, and
portal out with our gate master once we had the lamp. The passage to the
Land of the Giants was even worse. We were climbing half way up the wall
and trying to slide by ancient behemoths that almost completely filled
the passage (but eventually we made it). The maze in Nigon was the
biggest challenge. We got to the fortress inside easily enough, and
recovered the statue, but the way to that guy's remains was through
a passage that had an air hydra firmly wedged in it. The poor creature
kept struggling, but couldn't budge. One of the balconies had a passage
leading to beyond the hydra, so we cast 'jump' to get on the balcony
(losing our invisibility), then ran the rest of the way to get the
remains. ('Preservation' is a wonderful spell.)

When getting the spell book from the Breeding Pit we got by the
behemoths with invisible, but lost our invisibility squeezing by
the fire creature in the narrow passage beyond. We ran the rest
of the way, casting 'jump' to hop over the gogs. The biggest problem
was getting by the fire elementals in the very narrow passages.
We had to run back and forth until we manuvered them into a corner,
and then try to squeeze by. Fortunately our clerics were already
promoted and could easily out-heal the damage we were taking.

Eventually we were called upon to mediate a dispute between a Vampire
and some villagers. We decided that we needed to call in a team of
professional negotiators -- namely some of those charismatic greater
light elementals. Alas, they must have been spending too much time
with our butler, judging from their technique. Eventually, though,
the Vampire aggreed to play dead and not bother the villagers anymore.
I also called in these diplomats when problems arose with the Baa Priest
and the Devil King. Their technique did not improve, but they did
manage to solve the problem at hand.

We had our Monk borrow the control cube. It took a steal skill of 35.
(skill 10 (basic) + 17 (from gauntlets Sorc enchanted) + 8 (burglar))

The final area was straitfoward. We set a beacon when we entered,
and another in a relatively safe passage further in, so we could
always get out of an impass. And we had plenty of healing power,
which was not needed much with GM regeneration going.

And thus we finished with a clear conscience, knowing that we had
never killed, injured, or enchanted any creature at any time.

Could you have posted any more Spoilers? You should really warn people of
this.

Other than that, I find it amusing how many different ways people come up
with to play RPGs, especially Might and Magic games. It must have been
pretty difficult to get through this one without spilling any blood. I
envision an lot of running and getting hit from behind!

Didn't the fact that he was discussing -winning the game- tip
you off?

I have finished the game already so I read it and made an observation. Most
people still post a spoiler warning if they are giving any information away.
The subject said nothing about him giving a detailed description of HOW he
solved each part of the game. Its just common courtesy.

Hi,

Congratulations! I have been thinking of doing the same for MM8, after I
finish with my single knight that I am not training. Have you tried playing
with 4 knights and not training them? This is an interesting challenge for
MM7. Having done it, I know you can complete the game with 4 level 1
champions. There are a couple of rough spots along the way, but it is
possible.

Thanks. I have never played without training, or without some save/restore.
I did go through with a solo sorceress (and no NPCs), and with a solo monk
(teacher+instructor NPCs). (I haven't quite finished with the monk, yet.)
Both were trained to very high levels and were pretty effective near the end.
(I went solo by drowning the other three characters at the begining.)

I'm sure 4 knights without training was more of a challenge than any of
my games. I don't think I'll do that, though. I like leveling and being
able to heal.

I still think it would have been -very- easy to stop reading
at any point before you were worried you'd get unwanted information.
It's not like he just posted: "It turns out the innkeeper in the Dwarf
town is actually the head evil guy in the game." or something like that.

That is pretty good, but not quite as impressive as MM7. The
invisibility helped, as did the fact that you could skip most of the
game and just go to the end if you knew what you needed to do.

Congratulations. I'm very impressed--it's not a game I would have imagined
being able to finish that way. Although now that I think about it, you can
run really fast in MM7. I remember finishing that quest with all the
medusas in the basement basically, by running like hell, and I was visible,
too.

Recently, I thought I would try to do it with Planescape Torment

**** spoiler space *****

My thought was that if I had TNO start as a thief, that I could try to
acquire only Annah and we'd just hide in shadows through all the dungeons.
I knew we would have to fight Ravel and Trias, but you don't kill Ravel and
you don't have to kill Trias, so I thought it might work.

Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out a way to get the key from the zombie in
the first room without killing it. So much for that idea...I wonder if I
could make an exception and allow the killing of Undead, since they're
already dead anyway. Think it's possible?

I may not bother, though. I'm currently locked in a struggle with System
Shock 2. Damn, this game is HARD.
