Dragon Age: who's in your party?

In the early part of the game, it's clear that you can play with almost
any combo with success - but what about later?

My first character, a mage, surrounded himself with melee fighters, and
did very well until he started running around under Orzammer.

(Did they have to name the Dwarf town something that sounds so much like
Orgrimmar?)

Man, it's brutal down there.

For those of you who actually made it through your first run through -
who was in your party, and what skills did they bring?

I'd be interested in any thoughts you guys have about companions, generally.

My first character went with Alistair, Wynne (when she joined) and Zev.

However, Alistair had a hissy fit when I spared Loghain, so I popped Loghain
in his place.

This time, I've been going with Bren, the rogue chick in Chantry clothes,
and Morrigan.

I'm playing on hard. My main is a mage (with healing), which is really
the most important aspect you need (in this and pretty much any RPG,
healing). So having that aspect covered, the rest is easy. A tank
(Alistair), a rogue (Liliana) and the 4th could be anything, in my
case, I like more firepower so I got Morgana (specially considering
that the mage class really should be divided in to with all the
different talent lines they have)

Morrigan can also be a tank if you focus on her shapeshifting abilities.

I'm almost all the way through and I used Allister, Leliana, Shale, and
my mage character for most of the game. I used Oghren in Orzammar
because I suspected he'd have "special" things to say (and I was right).
Leliana is a bit of a problem because she doesn't have the staying
power of the two fighters.

If I play again I will probably create a rogue and then use Sten, Oghren
and Morrigan or Wynne.

Dog:

specced the same way everyone who uses him specs him (not a
lot of choices, hehe).

my main: mage. specced mostly entropy (love mass paralysis
and the hexes), but also have shapeshifting and now arcane healer.
(lvl 14). First 2 fire abilities also.

Started a second character, also a mage, but this time w/the
intent of being an arcane warrior - sword wielding battlemage. But I
wanna finish my first play through before I get too far ahead of
myself w/trying alts.

not sure, I have Morrigan auto shape shift to bear when she runs out
of mana, and I've noticed she goes pretty quickly when she's one on
one as a bear against anything.
