So,in the expectation of U9 , i considered to buy a new computer,
amongst other reasons, in order to be able to play U9 in a decent way.
Also, in the expectation of U9, i followed the posts in some related
newsgroups.
You can imagine, that I became increasingly disappointed after
November 23rd,reading the posts in this newsgroup ( i am aware, that
there always are some ignorants who do not know, how to handle their
equipment but the uniform opinion of the masses, like in this case -
mostly- shows the direction).
I ordered a computer containing a 3dfx voodoo 3 card to be on the safe
side, when it comes to playing U9 ( against my conviction that
Nvidia`s Geforce may be the better choice for 2000)
After some days of increasing frustration reading posts of frustrated
players and game testers i decided to:
1. Wait until middle of next year ( or until all U9 bugs are resolved)
to buy U9 and
2. TO SELL MY ELECTRONIC ARTS SHARES
( for 115$ each with considerable pofit: the EA shares tumbled at
about 70$ for a long time then suddenly rose
to 120$ somewhere end of Octobre, and fell down 15% after September
23rd (no idea why, do you have any?)
I did not sell my EA shares because of the U9 problems ,this is only a
small part of their 1.2 billion revenue in 1999,but because of the
obvious lack in customer orientation of this specific company
"ELECTRONIC ARTS".
I am living in Germany and for us Europeans many US companies normally
are an example of perfect customer orientation and service mindedness,
but i sold my EA shares, because I am certain that the EA
management,-responsible for the U9 early release disaster,- seems to
be not of the kind to increase share holder value.
I do not like to lose money.
In the future, i will be very careful before buying any EA products
from:
(Electronic Arts(TM), EA SPORTS(TM), Maxis(TM), ORIGIN(TM),
Bullfrog(TM) Productions, Westwood Studios(TM), Gonzo Games and
Jane's® Combat Simulations(TM)
Now I am sitting here with a high end computer including printer,
sanner digital camera , skiing holiday in Austria- all financed by the
jerks of EA, yet 1 dream lost.,
Waiting eagerly for Wizardry 8 , does anybody know what the status
of that game is?- i heard a rumor, that Sirtech announced a release
date in late spring 2000?
any link to a related web site is appreciated.
Thanks for taking your time to read this post, but i simply HAD to
tell this to some compassionate souls-MU ( or was it um?- om?-- cah?-
beh?- lum? ???)
It's not EA's fault. Origin wrote the game, and if I remember
correctly the crownariffic Lord British approved the game for release.
Blame them, not the publisher.

Actually, as I hear it, EA laid down an edict that the game would
either ship by the end of the month or it would be cancelled and never
released. So, Origin's hands were tied to some extent by their parent
company on this one.
While I'm not a fan at all of people releasing games with known flaws
(the 1.05F patch was being worked on as the game was being mastered),
I would certainly rather have the game in it's current state than
never have it at all.

I don't know. While I find it plausible that EA would make that
threat, I can't believe that they'd actually go through with it with
the game so close to completion. I think Garriot could have called
their bluff if he'd really cared about releasing a relatively bug-free
product.

Actually EA shares seem to be doing well. In the last 6 months they
have doubled.
