I'm working with the Risen console / editor trying to
balance the game better from the start. Even with
the EASY setting, Risen is highly unbalanced in
favor of the "beasts" .. esp the Lizard Warriors.

I set Hero's strength to 200 and dexterity to 100
so that I could qualify for better weapons early
in the game .. and attempt to reduce the nuisance
factor caused by stun-locking .. and the great
expense of healing potions. That worked somewhat
until I got to the caves .. ghouls, skeletons, and
a few Lizardmen. Then, I tried to use the editor
to raise the Life hit-point level, but there is nothing
in the "give" catagory that works. So I discovered
that Hero plants at Alchemy 3 could raise that
fairly quickly. Finding 8 mushrooms was not too
difficult, and I got hit points 10 each time.

After my hit points reached about 370, I tried to
brew strength potions ... and I could, but they
no longer raised STRENGTH. It almost looks
like STR 200 is the max in the game. In Ch 2
I'm running into Lizard Warriors, so I used the
editor to give Hero a Titan Bastard Sword and
a Titan Bow. Made no real difference at all.
The Lizard Warriors are still very hard to defeat
.... as if they are at least double the max
strength and dexterity that Hero will ever reach.
The only way to defeat them is to use Helpers
and exploits ... running with the Titan bow.

With all of that, the game is still tedious, and
you never reach a level where that gets better.
I've read that I might be able to use the console
command .... edit PC_Hero ... to raise Str above
200. I would like to get him to the level you
need in Gothic 3 ... that is STR 400. But I also
read that using that edit can bug the game ..
so I'm going to wait and try it later in my present
game. Has anyone here tried edit PC_Hero ??

I don't want to reduce the game to "god" mode.
That would certainly be easier. I just want to
make the game feel better, and allow much
more wandering without all the health potions.
Give the game some balance, and make it
playable without all the exploits and reloads.

Something is strange. I'm still in ch 2, but I just wasn't
going to put up with the overwhelming power of the Lizard
Warriors, so I added the Don's armor. That only increased
my protection about 20 points over the Hunter's clothes,
but suddenly it seemed to turn my sword skills on.
I'm not to the point where the Don would award me
the fighter's armor, so I think the armor itself triggered
something before the "beasts" level up. Now, I can
easily attack a pack of wolves, and I have side swings
that get every one of them at the same time ... as
many as 5 at a time.

So, I went looking for Lizard Warriors at the caverns
above the midland falls to see if indeed I really had
new and effective sword skills. Much better. I can
take on 3 of them at a time and win with the side
steps and side swings to both sides. This may
level up later on in chapter 3. I don't know.

The game sure is a lot more enjoyable this way.
I don't need to run for "Mommie" every time I see
a Lizard Warrior.
