The second aspect, I remember clearly. Black background, you'd wander
through halls top down. Rooms and hall walls were all vector lines.
You were a white circle (very vector-esque gfx), the members of your
party were green circles. I believe you could switch which member of
the party you controled, change formation etc. Everyone usually
followed single file.
When you turned a corner, your circle would stay (a rotating circle
appears to stay still) and the entire screen view would rotate. You
really only turned 90 degree corners.
Ran on DOS, friend played it in 1990-1991. I believe your characters
had stats and items, makes me think that it was a RPG. Never knew the
name of it.
I've been searching through abandonware screenshots one by one.
I think the name of the game you are talking about was Mega-Traveler.
I loved this game.
Look it up on the web and see if I am right.

You are describing Sentinal Worlds 1: Future Magic. This was an old
favorite of mine. You can find a description and screen shots, as well
as the game itself, at www.the-underdogs.org.

A fine game, just like its sequel Hard nova, also at underdogs.

Yep, one of my favorites, too. The game did a lot with what it had to work
with for the time. I still have the original box, discs, manuals, and hint
books.

Yeah, I really liked these games though I remember reviewers not being
totally thrilled with them. I never could finish Hard Nova, because I
managed to kill an NPC that was supposed to be unkillable. Forget all
the details now, but the developers forgot to make the NPC immune to
grenades, so when I found that all of my other weapons were
ineffective, I took him out with a bunch of grenades. Unfortunately,
you needed to talk to him later to continue the plot, so that did it
for me. Never got back to it. I'd play it again if I could get it to
run on anything.

Hmmm. Wonder what happened to mine. Probably at my parent's. I do remember
looking at some of the numbered conversations that weren't actually real.

I'm just shaking my head here in awe. This the end of a triple play
"Name that Game" sweep that has spanned many years. The answers were
this game, The Return of Hercules and Strike Force (Midway 1991). The
sweep started on 6/8/2000.
You guys rule! I can't believe this is answered.

No, there are. That's what clinched the description. Not only are looking top
down on dots when moving around, but you also get 3D vector graphics overlayed,
green lines on black field. It shows nothing but walls and, honestly, is
something you end up ignoring as it's useless, but it is there.

Space Rogue was 16-color graphics, and did not rotate as you moved around. It
was very simular to the graphics used in Ultima 4.

I do remember that. Didn't it somehow figure into the game plot?
Huh? Nova runs on just about anything (at least the version at underdogs)
Tomi
What a great thing it is.
